The arena is not going to be big enough to handle a State U game. It would sell out pretty fast and demand would likely be twice what the arena can hold. Unless a new arena is in place rather soon it's probably going to have to be a home and home series.

If you are looking to watch some SDSU Basketball at the Arena, I would invite you to get your seats soon to the Summitt League Championships for both men and women.

It shouldn't conflict with anything on the 'Yotes calendar. Unless there is another USD Bake Sale at Vemillion High School. Never did get a result on how much you clowns made on that last one. Just remember, I get 10% for the idea which will go into the endowment my family already supports at SDSU.

I can assure you JJ that there was no way that President Chicoine and AD Oien were "at odds" as you put it. So your suspicion is correct. And I can tell everybody with some certainty that the question of SDSU playing USD will NOT ever be discussed, or decided, in the process leading up to the selection of the new AD. However, there is no doubt that there won't be much daylight between them, because even a nominally intelligent AD allows that to happen only at his own peril.

There is absolutely no way to know what's going to happen with the USD "rivalry" under a new athletic administration. President Chicoine, with his choice of a new AD will set that policy. This will be "his" AD and I'm sure they'll be of one mind about most things. I'm not saying President Chicoine and Dr. Oien were at odds. I have no idea about that, but I suspect not. I'm just saying that since President Chicoine will make this hire, there likely won't be much daylight between them on most things. That's just the reality of things as a new President makes his mark on a campus.

New AD might help move the ball rolling.... but I think USD has to take steps at making it happen.... Everybody on the U's side thinks a 1-1 is what should happen or possibly playing in Sioux Falls..... The way I see it is that SDSU is owed a home game in football before any 1-1 or Sioux Falls game is worked out just because they went first with transition, if U would of went first and State follow I would say that the U deserved a home game..... Some people also have to understand at least for football how hard it is to make it work.... We have contracts with Southland conference teams, old GWFC teams and then money games that are in the schedule already, USD is trying to get games when they can, so you have to look at it and find an open day that works for both programs.... As far as basketball I see it happening sooner, but again I would expect that SDSU gets a home game just for going first... then I would like some type of a Thanksgiving game or early season game at the Arena maybe a mens, women double header or Augie-USF before hand or something like that....

Might as well jump in with the "off topic" tenor of all recent posts...Dr. Oien isn't going to fire anyone before he leaves. Whether USD did or didn't, who cares, and it has no bearing on our situation. Too bad for the "hate Nagy" group, but you can just as well settle in for the rest of the season, check your negative thoughts at the door (or don't go if you can't) and just cheer on the Jacks and help us keep the progress moving upwards.

BTW, can somebody tell me who was the poster, and what thread (I paid little attention to the name) who said this Jacks team doesn't have ANY D-I level players. He (she?) can go try to sell that to the Iowa State announcers on tonight's game.

Look at the timing on these compared to the season involved. Old coach fired and in one month new AD takes over and in the same month hires the new coach (I doubt the entire search had been done by the new AD, but my guess is he had some input) and the start of the next season was 9 months away.

IF the process goes at SDSU as indicated, the new AD will take over in late July at the earliest meaning the firing and hiring of a new coach would take with the start date of new season 2-3 months away. Even if they would fire Nagy, they won't hire the new coach until the new AD is in place. No way that happens with the short turn around on the start of the next season, in my opinion.

Now if they have Fred's replacement hired before the end of April, everything changes.

I would be extremely surprised if a new AD is hired with a direct order to fire certain personnel whether its the head bb coach or the staff member that drives the little garden tractor pulling the cage with the hog to the middle of the court for the auction at the Pork Classic. With year to year employement contracts, you have to have reason or cause to fire some one. Having a tractor rollover before reaching mid court might be one cause for termination, but that unlikely too.

Nagy will be with us until he decides to resign, or at least until the new AD has evaluated the bb program and decided that the direction of the bb program could only improve with a different coach. The new AD would have to get the support from the President or his staff to follow through a new change in coaches. The new AD could also conclude that Nagy is a good coach, has a clean program and is doing the best job possible and retain him for as long as Coach Nagy wants to stay. These are some of the scenerios that affect Coach Nagy's job security in my humble opinion.

I did some searching on the net.

Kelly Higgins was out before John Austin was terminated. My search did not dig deep enough to determine if Meierkort's hiring was announced by Nielsen.

My guess on USD-SDSU..... it will have nothing to do with the AD but my guess is

either next year or probably the year after the basketball teams will play a game at Frost.... After that maybe a game in Sioux Falls but until the U builds a basketball arena I don't see the Rabbits going to the Dump..

Football is a lot more confusing, besides the fact that are schedule is booked for a while its my understanding that there is still a few contracts that have a game on them, plus with money games you take them when they are offered.... It could be 2015ish before a game "could" work for both teams....

I hardly think that the facility really matters all that much. If SDSU seriously doesn't expect to have to play in Vermillion at some point (before a new arena or not) than it's no wonder nothing will ever get done.

my point is it will happen when it happens.... probably sooner for basketball then for football because there is fewer dates and more games committed to at this point, and that as a fan we have little to do with it happening....
