  • Why isn't McNeese State in the FCS Playoffs

I have not paid too much attention to the playoffs, but it just dawn on me that McNeese State is not in the playoffs. I went to their offical website and saw what their results were since Hobo Day and their win.

    Here Are the scores:

Sat, Aug 30 North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC 5:00 PM 27 - 35 (L)

    Sat, Sep 06 Delta State Lake Charles, LA 7:00 PM 52 - 27 (W)

    Sat, Sep 27 Southern Virginia Lake Charles, LA 7:00 PM 63 - 7 (W)

    Sat, Oct 04 South Dakota St. at Brookings, SD 2:00 PM 46 - 44 (W) 3OT

    Sat, Oct 11 Texas State * Lake Charles, LA 7:00 PM 42 - 45 (L)

    Sat, Oct 18 Sam Houston State * at Huntsville, TX 2:00 PM 28 - 17 (W)

    Sat, Oct 25 Nicholls State (HC) * Lake Charles, LA 7:00 PM 35 - 38 (L)

    Sat, Nov 01 Southeastern Louisiana * at Hammond, LA 6:00 PM 24 - 14 (W)

    Sat, Nov 08 Stephen F. Austin * Lake Charles, LA 7:00 PM 42 - 31 (W)

    Sat, Nov 15 Northwestern State * at Natchitoches, LA 6:00 PM 24 - 17 (W)

    Sat, Nov 22 Central Arkansas * at Conway, AR 4:00 PM 30 - 47 (L)

    * Conference Games

They lost two games by three points, and appear to have been spanked by CAU who is not eligible for the playoff. Texas State went to the playoffs by default since CAU was not eligible. Maybe its a good thing we did not have a third game with CAU, as they appear to have been good enough to win the Southland and to take it to McNeese says a great deal in my opinion. I also looked at McNeese72's message board and I understand in some of the games, they lost the ball on fumbles within the red zone. So would you rather be a Cowboy or a Jackrabbit? I think a Jackrabbit, as we had our disappointments but I think McNeese had their's too.

Their record isn't all that impressive when you consider that Delta State is a member of Division II, and Southern Virginia is in the NAIA.

Impressive records? So!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did check their records, but did not make a judgement about impressive or not. You are the judge here and your comment is so noted. Also they played a money game, with UNC of the ACC and did quite well. I was left after the Hobo Day game that McNeese was a very good team and they were. I thought for certain they would run the tables and win the Southland Conference and be in the playoffs. As I said a above they had some bad breaks along the way and are now sitting at home. There was no judgement about the schedule they played.

ID is right in that they didn't have enough wins against quality teams and the loss to Nichols St. at home is a bad loss. Even if they beat UCA to end the year they would only have 6 DI wins, not a playoff team and I'm sure very disappointed about that. When they lost 2 out of 3, including that game at home, right after they stole the one in Brookings they hit crapsville and were out of the playoff discussion.

Whatever, I was just curious as to what happened to McNeese since Hobo Day.

              Beautiful.

Perhaps you were more interested in an explanation as to why they lost those games. I can't explain that. You would have to ask the McNeese guys. I think they probably played their best game of the year against us. Not sure if injuries had a major impact or they just weren't able to keep it together as a team. I just don't know.

I dont know either that is why I said "Whatever". Let McNeese72 figure it out. I am sure he has a good answer. Yeah on second look, the schedule does not look that good, but sometimes they have to take what they can get.

I don't know why they lost the games, but I suspect their defense was the issue. Their offense was pretty good.

Judging by the scores of the games they lost and barely won, a number of points were given up and I think you are on to something.

I had the notion that McNeese was probably the best team in the Southland Conference, but am not so sure now. Texas State seemed to have a better team this year, but were not a match for Montana. So its kind of hard to make any sense. If we are looking for win, I think our chances with Southland for non conference games are pretty good.

I have a feeling that some of the Cowboy fans are feeling about the same as I am about this season for the Jacks, close but close enough. ie SIU,McNeese, games. The other losses, Cal Poly, UNI and Iowa State, we were off the mark. Oh well, there is next year.
