San Diego State University terminated head football coach Chuck Long ahead of Saturday's game (a surprising 42-21 win over UNLV). Long struggled...2-10 record this year, the first 10-loss season in the school's history. He was 9-27 over three seasons. It was his first head-coaching job and he had been one of the top assistants at Oklahoma. Many thought he'd be the next real-deal head coach but it sure didn't work out.
Long was the star quarterback for Iowa who was runnerup to Bo Jackson for the Heisman in 1985. Back in the 80s, the State of Iowa would have voted for Long for President if he was in the race.
