    By now, sports fans everywhere have heard about the softball game between Central Washington and Western Oregon on Saturday...the Western Oregon senior, part-time starter appearing in likely the last game of her career, getting her first home run and then suffering a devastating knee injury after rounding first base...if you haven't heard the story or just want to read about it again, here's the tale as told on ESPN:

          Based on the "Rule Clarification" included in the on-line article it appears that the umpire on the field erred and this act of sportsmanship was actually unnecessary. I, for one, am happy about this error. Without it, the players involved would have been deprived of this tremendous act of sportsmanship and the rest of us would have been deprived from reading about it.

          This article should be required reading for every coach, parent, and player of every sport for decades to come.
