Very true, but any word from either part of the state on who they are going to hire?

Great insight from a very reliable source. If Miles is indeed out than Frerentz moves to the top of the list? What do you think sfsd?

Very little, it's that big a mess. Ball State coach Brady Hoke (are you serious?) is a former Carr assistant and the name being tossed about most. But with the pride and prestige there, I don't think they can sell him to the donors.

Out of the two who interviewed, neither is really in the running so to speak, even though the staff has contracts through next season. D-coordinator Ron English is the frontrunner right now in a landslide of the two that have interviewed (English and Mike DeBord). Then again, we all saw how bad Michigan's D under English has been against fast teams (Oregon, Appy State, every bowl game in recent years). DeBord was forced to resign at Central Michigan after going 12-64 there, so can him failing upward into the Michigan job?

As for Ferentz, well, it just seems like it's getting a little too late in the year to leave one Big Ten program for another. Maybe if he was the top choice all along.

Here's another thought, which is purely speculative. I was thinking today that they're bringing up Miles name over and over to string it out as long as possible for a smokescreen to wait until the end of the NFL season and get a name guy. Or perhaps even bring back the previous defensive coordinator, Jim Herrman (Jets LB coach) who was DC for nine years under Carr. Or perhaps another NFL name. But Michigan is NOTORIOUSLY cheap when it comes to paying its coaches vs. other schools. I can almost guarantee you won't be seeing Saban/Spurrier type money flying around here.

Basically, though, it sounds like Bill Martin is way in over his head. I mean, he didn't employ a headhunter for this at all because he thought Miles was on lock-down. And unless Miles pulls the slimiest of moves and leaves LSU in a lurch, the Wolverines are just grasping at straws with signing day fast approaching.

I just read on Hawk Central that Ferentz is going to make upwards of $3 million next year from all his Iowa sources. That, along with Michigan's notorious stinginess, would suggest Kirk won't be jumping to UM, no matter what the president there says.
          Holy nutmeg!

This is a good example of why I do not watch "reality" shows on TV. How can you beat Michigan reality for a story?

I got twenty dollars on miles being the coach next year, and yes it will be the "slimiest move ever." He's just waiting until after the title game and he's gone.

Well folks, they finally closed the deal.

"Michigan has hired West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez as its next football coach following a search that featured two other top prospects deciding to stay put."

I guess my reply didn't post before, but I'll take you up on this. PM me for the address to send it to

Glad this debacle is over. Now we can focus on Ohio State beating Mile in the BCS title game.
