Re: Who will win: Ohio State or LSU?

Playoffs anyone? What a messed up year in FBS. Might be the two best teams playing for the title, but are they most deserving?

I'll throw out picks for all the BCS games.

    Ohio State over LSU
    Va Tech over Kansas
    Oklahoma over WVU
    Georgia over Hawaii
    Illinois over USC

I watched a boatload of football Saturday. Oklahoma is the real deal. West Virginia looked awful. Just plain awful. Va Tech is a solid team (special teams is a difference maker). LSU - not convinced they're as good as advertised. They had two bad losses IMO, the last at home to a lesser opponent who's coach was on his way out the door. Tennessee was good, but not great and LSU wasn't that impressive in beating them. USC has had a good year, but isn't the team they've been in the past. I think Illinois has something to prove and will play lights-out. Hawaii - NOT this year's Boise State. I fell asleep and they were down 21-0 to Washington after 1 Q with 3 TO's. Must have been a heck of a comeback that I missed.

Once again, will be a long, drawn out Bowl season with probably not very many good games. Two games that I think will have mucho points and a lack of defense - Boston College/Michigan State and Oregon/South Florida (nothing like two fallen #2's meeting up in a meaningless Bowl game).

Can't say I'm a big OSU or LSU fan, but of the two my personal opinion is Ohio State is the better team and they have proven to be the top team in FBS this year.

      CatchEmAll,

Are you on crack!?! The Ohio State University proved to be the best FBS team this year! Which OSU are you watching? They didn't play anybody, won some close games against some weak Big 10 competition, lost to an up & coming Illinois program at home (not alot of shame, but at HOME) and struggled with an average to begin with it and now quite injured Michigan team! Put the 2007 Buckeyes in the SEC, Big 12 or Pac 10 and they have at least one more loss if not 2! LSU did play uninspired against Tennessee but did still won and did so without their starting QB and best, dominate D-tackle.

      Predictions:

Orange: Va. Tech over Kansas - I think KU proved their season was impressive but came against an embarrassing cupcake schedule & Va. Tech's defense will rise to this occasion.

Sugar: Georgia - this isn't even close! Hawaii had a nice season but there's a reason they weren't in any serious title talk. No competition & struggled against some of the better opponents.....UGA is one of the hottest teams in the nation right now and is scary young to boot! Look for them to be top 4 (along with OU, USC, and Florida to start next season).

Fiesta: Okalhoma - West Virginia is much, much better than they showed against Pitt but OU just dominated a similar offense in the Big 12 title game and Mizzou can throw the ball much better than WVU. Furthermore, OU's offense is physically dominating and efficient. OU absolutely b*%ch slapped Mizzou & is REALLY kicking themselves for letting the game at Colorado get away right now!

Rose: USC - The Trojans started the season ranked #1 & would finish the season there if we had a playoff system or the voters had enough sense to vote them in! They are unreal & are finally healthy; absolutely destroying teams. Illinois doesn't belong here (thanks to some pretty outdated tradition nostaglia from the Rose Bowl committee) and will get utterly smacked by the most talented team in the nation.

BCS: LSU - The Tigers defensive speed causes fits for OSU's offense and their talented D-line holds up very well against the Buckeyes running attack. Same story on the other side of the ball as well: SPEED! LSU has a lot of it & OSU doesn't have enough! OSU acquits themselves much better this time around but still loses to the best LSU has to offer!

This train wreak regular season was the most entertaining in recent memory but defiantely highlighted the need for some type of playoff! Imagine how entertaining a FBS playoff would be..........!

I'm going to stick to the question at hand. I think OSU can run the ball on LSU. OSU's O-line is impressive and their big RB hits the hole hard. LSU has better team speed and the game is in their backyard. We have a whole month to debate this but for now I'm taking LSU in a close game.

I'm taking LSU in a not so close game. I like OSU, but I jsut remember the Florida game last year. I know LSU doesn't have that kind of speed, but still think it will be LSU in a 10 point game.

I guess I must be on something for the picks I made. Wow, I should really cut back.

Just curious, how bad would LSU beat that "unreal & are finally healthy; absolutely destroying teams" USC squad that beat their cross-town rival UCLA 24-7 at home this past Saturday. The same UCLA squad that finished 6-6 with a 44-6 loss to Utah and a 20-6 home loss to mighty Notre Dame on their schedule...and oh, by the way, just fired their head coach.

Don't forget that USC lost to Stanford at home. Stanford also lost to that mighty Notre Dame team. Oh and Stanford was at home.

But to the topic at hand, I think LSU will crush Ohio State. I've been saying this from the beginning Ohio State is overrated, this game probably won't be very close. And Ohio State will be on something like a 51 day lay-off, just like last year and we all saw how well that worked out for them.

Re: Who will win: Ohio State or LSU?

I'm more than happy to eat crow on the OSU/LSU game. Not a big fan of either.

Any idea if Dorsey will be ready by then? I can't even remember what his injury was. What about the starting QB for LSU (the senior, not Perileaux (sp)), will he be ready?

Both teams will struggle with the long lay-off, just a matter of who prepares better. Besides, LSU loses Bo Pelini to Nebraska...that will have some effect. Plus, I'm not convinced Miles still won't take off. I know, I know, he had the press conference, but nothings final until he...OK, should have checked espn.com before I started typing. Even the Michigan AD says he's staying at LSU. OK, regardless, big game, too long of a lay-off, I'm sticking with Big Ten country.

Throwing my hat into the ring

Ohio State vs. LSU - gotta go with the tigers here. Too many weapons
Va Tech vs. Kansas -If there is one team in FBS I dislike its Va Tech but Kansas has no defense.
Oklahoma vs. WVU - WVU has shown they can be handled by a good defense.
Georgia vs. Hawaii - I would love nothing more than to be wrong here but I just think that Georgia is too strong. Hawaii struggled with Washington.
Illinois vs. USC - Trojans will roll

Big Ten all the way. Except when the gophers are playing us or NDSU. Ohio State wins in triple overtime.

...that's the only way LSU has lost this year...

Nevertheless, I have to disagree and predict that LSU will beat Ohio State in the BCS title game. The Buckeyes simply have not been tested, thanks in part to the Big Ten scheduling and the lack of a title game.

I'll go with eqguy's picks...I also would like to see Hawaii make a strong showing and challenge the Dawgs...

Did you actually watch the game?! Yes, it was 'only' a 17 point win but USC absoultely dominated the entire game! UCLA got lucky to score at all. I don't play the transitive math property (they beat, who beat, who beat) game so I don't care who the Bruins lost to and how bad they those losses were. It was a schizo UCLA team that played very well in spurts but couldn't do anything against USC -- just like Arizona State couldn't a week earlier! Furthermore, rivalry games produce interesting results (WVU/Pitt ring a bell!) so for USC to thourghly dominate that game was impressive. I think they jumped the gun on firing Dorrel but time will tell.....USC loss to Stanford is embarrassing and a complete aberation - USC lost two games this year by a combined 8 points and have something like a 68-14 record during the Pete Carrol era with 6 of those losses during his first season and the other 8 by a combined 25 points or something riduculous like that!

If a different system or a playoff was in place, I would bet USC wins the whole shootin' match. Finally healthy, insanely talented, experienced and best defense in the nation make them coupled with consistency makes them THE hottest team in the nation!

Eqguy & Mango 4 seem to be guys who have actually watched some FBS football this year and aren't being complete Big Ten homers!!! Illinois gets embarrassed and The Ohio State looks silly for the second year in a row!

If I had to put my money on a team having a good shot to win it all if we had a playoff system, I'd go with West Virginia. Fresh of a refocusing win and an offense that aside from Saturday's meltdown, is pretty dynamic. Not necessarily a cold-weather offense, so that would play a part if it was a playoff system, as would it for USC, LSU and any other SEC/Pac 10 team. Virginia Tech has been playing as well as anyone, also. One thing we can probably all agree on. Notre Dame wouldn't fare too well.

                              Um...No, I didn't watch the game.

Yes, I could be considered a Big Ten homer. I'm guessing you're a die-hard USC fan based on your pick. I can appreciate that. For the better part of 10 years the ONLY football I was able to watch was our beloved SDSU, so I've become a fan of college football in general.

Finally, I'm not the least bit offended that someone disagrees with my opinion. If you follow most of my posts they tend to be of the more sarcastic or "pushing people's buttons" nature. Mission accomplished I guess. Sorry to rile you up over this.
