  • Miles is going to Michigan

Just heard it on ESPN radio. Miles is leaving LSU for Michigan. Taking the D coordinator from Georgia Tech with him. Who does LSU get?

Darn it, you beat me to it...With Miles leaving and Pelini as good as gone, LSU will really have to stay focused against the Vols today.

Just heard from a Big 12 fan that OU assitant Brent Venables has been mentioned. Anyone else hear this?

I just saw that while watching the ACC championship game. Seemed odd that Miles would announce a change on the day of the SEC championship. Guess he is staying, maybe....

Miles will stay at LSU, working out new contract

It's probably a few years too early but Brian Kelly @ Cincinnati could be a possible candidate. He has only been at Cincy a year so I doubt it will happen.

Re: Miles is going to Michigan

This week's Sporting News has an article touting Brian Kelly at Cincinati for the Michigan job.

I saw the statement issued by Miles about him staying at LSU. He commented about having to address untrue reports of his leaving, to his players just hours before a huge game.

Look as though Lloyd Carr has endorsed Hoke or at least recommended him to be interviewed. Saw a little bit of this on ESPN College Football Live as well.

I wouldn't think the Michigan faithfull would be to happy with this choice? Didn't NDSU beat Ball State last year...handly??

I would sure think so. That's why I tried to find something actually documenting this after seeing it on ESPN. That Michigan connection is obviously the draw for the UM athletic department. Not to mention that Carr probably has a strong hand in this decision.

Re: Miles is going to Michigan

What seems to be a plum job at Michigan (No. 1 all time NCAA football victories) has its drawbacks. I was reading about current salaries in the Big Ten and elsewhere in Div. I football and Michigan and Lloyd Carr were not anywhere near the top. Admittedly the tradition at Michigan is very good but coaches salaries seem to lag far behind. For instance there was talk about Iowa's coach Ferentz, (not sure if his name is spelled right) but his current salary dwarfed what Carr was making. This may limit them getting a big name to fill in and why they are looking at assistants or the Ball State coach.
If one looks at the past with the maize and blue they do not go for big names. I was also reading today in the Grand Rapids Press that LSU's coach had actually called the Michigan AD twice before he re-upped at LSU and Michigans AD Martin never returned his call even though he had asked LSU for permission. I think Michigan is trying to get by cheaply and just make it look like they may be interested in a Hot Coach such as LSU's even though he is a Michigan grad.
