  • Lady Vols offer free tuition to fans

Found on a fan blog (via the Women's Hoops Blog):

The Lady Vols will give away a year's instate tuition (for 2008-2009) to a student who attends at least 10 of 14 home games. The winner will be picked randomly from those eligible, tallied electronically when they swipe their student cards at the gate.

    It's a $6,000 value.
Just goes to show that the quest to entice student fans to come to the games is a never-ending one.

Wow! That's quite the give-away. Too bad students need to be incentivized like that though.

I think it's the times we live in . . . students have LOTS of entertainment options, from game consoles to . . . well, it would take too long to list them all.

The point is that Tennessee isn't hurting for attendance for women's basketball (to say the least) but they're still putting this kind of effort into enticing their students to come to the games.

The only difference between Tennessee students and SDSU students is that there aren't quite as many SDSU students.

If we want to be among the best we want to learn from the best. I don't think you'll find a better-run women's college athletic program than at the University of Tennessee. (And yeah, I'm a bit biased in my analysis . . . otherwise I might be sleeping on the couch for a while . . . )
