We don't need them in conference to have all those things. OOC games are just the same to most fans.

The same can be said whether they conference or non-conference games.  If they are non-conference the game would be scheduled only at the pleasure of both teams as opposed to being mandated as conference games.

The Mid-Con, with the departure of Valparaiso, will be below the seven-core-member requirement to maintain the automatic bid in men's basketball effective next year, 2007-08.

A conference needs 7 core members and 6 that have been together for 5 years.

Oakland, SUU, WIU, IUPUI, Oral Roberts, and UMKC have been together for 5 years.

Starting 2007, Centenary will have been in the Mid Con for 5 years.

IPFW is an 8th core team.

You know, I keep stumbling over the 7-core member/8 year (individual school) and the six-core-member/5 year (conference continuity) requirement. I would not make a good compliance officer, obviously.

Still, the Mid-Con can ill afford any more member losses.

Which is why if they do lose another, they'll probably take a hard look at UTPA.
