The WAC just announced the addition of California Baptist University as a new member. They will begin the transition in 2018. They are currently finishing transition from DIII to DII. Provides the WAC with some stability considering that there are several factors that could result in one or more teams leaving such as Chicago State's financial problems, NMSU's lack of a home for football and other issues. CBU apparently has a strong academic record, a good athletic tradition and about 9000 students so could be a good get for the WAC.

Originally posted by Rabbit74 View PostThat is correct. You have to have I believe 5 years at DII before you can move up. They complete the 5 years next year and therefore can start the transition to DI in 18. So they were very recently D III

Originally posted by Roy View PostOne of the problems the WAC has is that they don't have a Sioux Falls tourney to feed the mother ship.
Playing the BB tourneys at The Orleans casino in Vegas is a bit like playing at ORU.
Now I'd like to see UMKC come back in. Compared to ORU and IUPUI the thousand people or so that packed the Swinney were the height of fan involvement. Don't know what the larger digs off campus are like.

Re: WAC gets a new member
I think it is a bit of a stretch to call them a good get at this point. Check out their facilities. Arguably, their nicest facility is their aquatics. Their newest facility is for the cheerleaders. Basketball has a capacity of 1,100. (If it didn't have chair back seating, it would not be much different than a small high school gym.)
I'm curious if they plan to keep wrestling at the D1 level and if so, I'd suspect they'd be interested in the Pac 12? (Pac 12 has six teams.)
