Take when SDSU visited Nebraska for example:

My guess is you're talking about $6mil in revenue less $400k to the Jacks. That's $5.6mil. Not a bad payday. Nebraska is Big 10 which has said they want that to end but I'm not sure all will. That's a lot of money to snub your nose at.

    Time will tell.

    Devil's advocate...

    With a home-home against a P5:

-you still get that payday every other year
-you improve your team's ability to play for a national championship
-you increase your national exposure with a game that people might actually watch
-you improve your team (and conferences) chances to get into the playoff

Like you said, time will tell.

Can't argue with any of that either.

I think conferences like the SEC, and ACC, and PAC 12 are deep enough to not have to worry. They can have the FCS game and it won't hurt their standing if they go undefeated through their conference. The Big 10 had been down a little but is getting stronger. That will help them. They are actively trying to schedule tougher OOC games to raise the profile of the conference.

The article includes this snippet: "Additionally, no Big 12 program shall play more than one game annually against a non-Football Bowl Subdivision opponent." That is coming from the Big 12.....a conference without a championship game.

So, IMO, the title of this thread "End of FBS v FCS" is a ways off from happening, if ever.

        The defense rests.

I'm not sure I follow your logic. They have already limited play against FCS teams, what is to stop them from eliminating it altogether?

They were left out last year and were the 4 seed this year... That kind of post-season representation isn't going to sit well in Big 12 country for long.

I'm don't think telling your members to only play one FCS school is much of a limitation,it should be a no-brainer. See-UNC. The Big 12 is trying to get a League championship game with 10 members but now the Big 10 is throwing a wrench in the works. http://www.sbnation.com/college-foot...en-bob-bowlsby

The announcement came from the Big 12 conference directly. Did you read the article? What part of " "Additionally, no Big 12 program shall play more than one game annually against a non-Football Bowl Subdivision opponent." do you not understand? You did read the article, and understand that it addresses strength of schedule directly, right?

Apparently, the Big 12 does not follow YOUR logic.

Lol, so the people you know on here are cool, but everyone else sucks... did it ever dawn on you that if you knew other people on here you would think they were cool too? Granted, I agree about some of the people on here being bags at times, but most everyone on here is cool, and definitely more respectable than you after a post like that.

Yes, it came from the conference?? Did I question that? Geez man, I honestly wanted an explanation of how that announcement could be interpreted as FCS games could potentially continue forever. We seem to be reading the article differently. Thanks for going straight in to attack mode.

Is it accurate to say that prior to now, a Big 12 program could have scheduled 2 games against an FCS? It must have been relevant in some way if they addressed it and released a statement about it.

Is it accurate to say that they have now restricted FCS games to no more than 1 per year?

Unless I'm misunderstanding, this announcement is restricting the amount of FCS games conference schools can schedule. What is to stop them from restricting it even more? Again, all I was asking for was some insight into how one could possibly interpret the article differently than what seems obvious to me.

                              Here is your explanation:

                              1. See thread title.

                              2. Go research how many P5 schools scheduled 2 FCS games this year and report back.

                              3. Is restricting something that isn't really occurring all over FBS really restricting? What if the City of Sioux Falls mandated that you could only eat a maximum of 500 Whoppers in a day?

                              4. Your post is full of speculative "what if's"? How am I supposed to respond to every crystal ball scenario? Of course they could eliminate FCS games. The government could also ban football. Alas, I would ask that you review the initial post in the thread, which is the thesis to debate.

The thread title includes a question mark.

There were no announced restrictions just a few years ago. Now, the B1G Commissioner states his conference schools will not schedule FCS schools (wasn't that just a suggestion a few years ago by Wisconsin's Barry Alvarez?). Sounds like the Big 12 may be formalizing a rule limiting FCS games to one. In this region if the Big 10 does not schedule FCS schools but wants what may be a less-challenging opponent, there are several to choose from in the neighborhood (e.g. one of the directional Michigan schools). The start of restrictions may be the start of a trend. The Big 10 Commissioner talked about getting the other power conferences to have similar practices and he indicated that the playoff selection committee is giving signals that point toward FBS schools playing just FBS schools (my paraphrasing of import of his words).

It's anybody's guess what the football landscape will look like 10-15 years from now. Maybe there will be little change but I think there is a likelihood that the gulf between the big power programs and everyone else will grow and part of that will be the refusal of the power conferences to play any lower division school (defined as anything below FBS). I hope that doesn't happen but if things move that direction, schools like SDSU may have to face more tough money decisions. If one doesn't get too upset about the topic, it'll may be fascinating to watch what happens.
