I'm creating this thread here to collect all of the stray discussions scattered around the board.

i think the concern has been identified and I see little disagreement on the proposition that SDSU has to figure out a way of give out the COA.

How do we do that? Do you have a proposal? Once a problem is identified, shouldn't the discussion shift to finding a solution? Is there concern (and a reasonable basis for the concern) that the administrators are not working on the problem?

There is always hope, I bought 10 Power Ball tickets hoping to win 235 million. What would I do with all the money? A bunch would probably go to SDSU, and doing so would get me some of the withholding from the winnings back as a deductible charitable contribution. I believe its one of few itemized deductions that don't phase out for rich guys. Of course one of those ten numbers has to be a match.

Seriously, I am with Jack#1 who I trust and he is right we do have to repay the bonds and I think the first repayment is 2016 or 2017.

He absolutely was...and if you don't think that was brought up as a main talking point during the recruitment process you are fooling yourselves. Our coaches, especially football, is in a really tough spot right now. If we can put $100+ million into facilities we look really foolish if we can't find another $1 million to fund COA.

The longer we wait, the more recruits like this we are going to lose and the possibility of losing current student athletes is not out of the question.

Point taken but recruits and their families are not going to give a hoot about this, which was the point of the post you were responding to. SDSU has to go the NDSU route or this becomes a significant recruiting disadvantage.

To this and the other post about my comments. I pointed out that our current situation does provide a quandary. I'm acquainted enough with Justin to know he won't just jump in and hope it all works out. But I trust him to figure out exactly how and when the problem is dealt with. I'm just immune to the "sky is falling" talk that jumps up every time a challenge arises. That's probably part of my problem in that I don't second guess people I trust. Nuff said, I'll just leave it at that.

Of that $100+ million, $40 million has been bonded out and has to be paid off. Add $1 million for COA to the annual bond payment and you have a lot more money added to the current budget. What we don't want is a death spiral in not having a plan to pay for the COA. I trust Justin Sell implicitly on this issue.

On the other hand, if we don't figure out a way to add $1 million in the budget, recruiting suffers, and we start putting an inferior product on the field, attendance drops and those bonds get even harder to repay. Quite the quandary.....

This is a situation where SDSU may be able to fund the change with more of the money to be raised through increased prices in tickets. Many schools are having problems selling season tickets even at a much reduced cost. Some of the Summit schools do not even get half the price that the Jackrabbits charge. The attendance at those schools is much lower as well. WIU football is $80 per season. YSU is $99 reserved and $77 general admission. Missouri St is $80-$100. The yotes are $125 per season. The bison are $155-$205. Illinois St is $115. $60 will buy the Indiana St season pass. SDSU is $150 plus the donation required in your section. As we might be wringing our hands about the COA, it should be remembered that there has been fan support at the gate to possibly sail through this change. The football & basketball gate will be a portion of the solution if not the major portion of the solution. Last year the football team brought 10,935 per game. 10,935 x $5 x 6 games would bring $328K for the season. That should cover about 80% of the football COA. We would be competitive with the season tickets at Fargo as we keep our team competitive with Fargo. I am sure Justin Sell and the athletic department will not drop the ball on this matter. Meanwhile, the fans need to know the price of "whiskey" might be going up.

Some of these venues are not very good and you are routinely sitting at games with, what, 6,000 fans, max? Apples and oranges to a degree. At some point aren't fans, too, going to have to decide if they want to be D-1 fans?

Or, you know, they could keep ticket prices the same since we are already at the high end of our conference mates... increasing the average attendance by a couple thousand per game would outpace a ticket hike. Plus you would get more in donation $$ with new season ticket holders. There are already TONS of fans who complain and/or stay away from games due to high ticket prices. I have half a dozen in my direct family that used to have season tickets for basketball or football that don't anymore. They live in Brookings county.

11,000*155=$1,705,000

IMO, we are nowhere near maxing out on fan attendance. Also IMO, we are very near the price threshold where LOTS of people quit buying season tickets.

I suppose there are some in Brookings County who wish for the days of DII and I did too after not receiving a Priority parking permit with my season tickets which were not mailed on time because some nob in the ticket office thought I had not made my contribution when in fact I make monthly contributions thru electronic transfer. Lots of weird things going on, I am not giving up on SDSU. I do like your thinking on holding the price on tickets with hopes getting more donors. It's really strange but NDSU seems to do price increases and it appears they don't have folks that give up tickets since most feel that a replacements will quickly take their place. We need create some of that fan anxiety in Jackrabbit world.

Me too, although I have not tasted any spirited beverage since Oct 3, 1973. On a serious note, it okay, I think, to include this discussion under 2016 recruits since COA appears to be on many minds and appears to have an impact on 2016 recruiting. I agree with USD fan Hareball who said that our coaches are probably telling the recruits that we will have it soon or later and that is not a lie in my opinion. Its just un-imagineable that SDSU will do nothing in establishing COA. I think Coach Stig said the bye week would be used to do recruiting. So we will see how that goes.
