  • Utah Valley/New Mexico State "Brawl"

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400499909

Fight at the end of the Utah State/New Mexico State that involved fans that stormed the court. This one didn't get too out of hand, but I've always hated fans storming the court. Something bad it going to happen to an opposing player. Was storming the court really necessary?

It's become way way to common anymore. I mean USD stormed the court when the beat us....in a REGULAR SEASON GAME! C'mom man!

Its weird that Utah Valley has fans. Seems like it was quiet those few games that SDSU played there. They were animals imo in storming the court. They are leading the WAC, and did not NDSU beat them in Fargo? That would help the RPI of NDSU.

I would blame the guy on the other team that whipped the ball at the opponents, not the fans storming the court.

Ryan Miller, older brother of Mike and the 3pt terrorist at Frost, from NSU, was an assistant at NMSU a few years back. I see he is now an assistant at Auburn. He done well in the coaching. Rumor mill had him as a leading candidate for a Nagy replacement, back in the dark days of transition. Things have worked well for both Ryan and Nagy. If Nagy were to leave tomorrow, I would like to see Ryan get the job, but the bucks are big elsewhere and I digress. The WAC standings are interesting. I suspect, the fans finally have something to get excited about. Self control is something that is often thrown out the window in BB games.

I'm with RabbitObsessed. The NMSU player whipping the ball at a UVU player is the spark that lit the fire here.
          Holy nutmeg!

Only time I think you should storm the court. You beat the number 1 team in the counrty. You win your confrence regular season title and then the tourny to go to the ncaas.

I had to laugh at UMKC being 6-8 in THAT conference? They are soo bad.

No one is saying otherwise. That did start things, but the fact that fans stormed the court could have created a situation that could have gotten very very bad.

I'm not even sure beating the #1 team in the country warrants it. With the parity in college basketball these days most years even the best teams in the country loses 3-4 games.

That seems to have been the trigger pulled. Plus throwing it at the coaches son was not smart.

How many times though does a school have to actually beat the #1 ranked team. If your out of the top 25 for sure. Out of th top 10 maybe if it has major standing implications. But if your top 10 those school never should.

Not to say anything nice about the WAC, BUT... Grand Canyon drew 4600+ last night against UMKC and UVU hit close to 5000 against Utah State. Not bad for a for-profit and a commuter school. Would that IPFW did as well (realize they can't in that gym, but 900 isn't good for a top tier team).

He (Ryan Miller) was an assistant at New Mexico (Lobos) under Steve Alford, not NMSU.

That's right, my bad. A short excerpt from one of the many articles out about Ryan.

He spent the past five seasons at New Mexico.

Grand Canyon must have a new facility. I watched a game there in maybe 2000, and that place was a cracker box.

Here is an excerpt from their website:

Grand Canyon University’s 5,000-seat Arena opened Sept. 1, 2011, just 15 months after University officials broke ground on the project. The 135,000-square-foot sports and entertainment venue hosts GCU athletics, University and community events, and national concert tours. Moreover, it serves as the focal point of GCU’s $200 million campus expansion. Notable and exciting features include large windows providing natural light, ceiling beams signed by GCU employees and students, a vault of Bibles buried at center court and an outdoor balcony with views of the Camelback Road campus. Only 42 steps from event level to concourse level ensure that every seat in the house is a good one.
