  • USC fires Kiffen

I'm not a fan of Lane Kiffen and I tend to agree with those who marvel at the number of great jobs he's landed without doing much with (or maybe even messing up) the team's he's coached. Anyway, USC's firing was brutal, according the to the report on DeadSpin:

(Thanks, slosho: corrected from USD to USC.)

I think Kiffin screwed up leaving Tennessee, he had something there, they had struggled for years and he was bringing in a new style to the University and was going to be a position where he was going to get a few years to figure things out and if they would have won he would have had his choice at any open job in the country.

However I feel he was screwed over by USC. All reports were that USC told him that they were not going to get hit hard by penalties and then other reports were that they told him that they would get lightened last year, telling Lane to recruit as if you were going to get a full allotment of scholarships causing Kiffin to have to deny some kids early admission and other back off of others very late.

Firing like this is just sad as well. The only way to justify a firing like that is if the guy committed a crime, and though many USD nutjobs feel that losing like this is a crime, its not.

I thought the fact that Kiffin was fired at the airport and not allowed to travel home with his team was very unprofessional on the part of the AD. Kiffin is an a-hole to be sure, but at the same time USC could have shown a little class by letting him go the next day, preferably when he was in a position to get his car. I'm not impressed.
      I am Ed. Fear me.

I have to agree it was a weird firing. Don't even let him ride back to campus. Maybe on his former pay check he still had enough to pay for a taxi. Another opportunity for Craig Bohl.

You and I have have about as good of a chance as Craig Bohl to get the USC job. Maybe slightly less.

Ya. Craig Bohl has maybe a .0001% percent chance at getting USC job. You don't jump from FCS to one of the marquee jobs in college football. USC will go after a big name coach. I have heard Jack Del Rio is one of the favorites

Tressel jumped from the FCS to Ohio State, but that was an "in-state" hire as well. Definitely not the norm. Bohl's power run game would not be flashy enough for USC fans.

Personally, I think this is a great fit for Kevin Sumlin. Manziel is going to graduate, and by going to USC he wouldn't have to play LSU, Alabama, and/or Auburn (if they get any better) just to win the conference.

As an ND fan, I lost some respect for Pat Haden on how he fired Kiffen. I agree he should have waited until Sunday. My guess is that during their meeting in the airport terminal, Kiffen said something he shouldn't have while battling for his job, and Haden was like "you know what, don't even get back on the bus". That's my best guess as to why it went down like that.

There would probably be a riot in LA if they hired Craig Bohl

Manziel is only a sophomore correct?

No the riot would be saved for some more important social injustice problem, like voter id's or something like that. Mean time many would ask who the hell is Craig Bohl?

I agree, just joking and thinking like a true bizun fan, who thinks the bizun are the greatest, and a coaching change will do nothing to take away greatness from the bizun nation.

Yes, you are correct. My mistake. Would still be a good move for Sumlin, IMO.

I do think Manziel will go pro as soon as he is eligible.

Well technically he's a RS Sophomore so there is a high chance he will be gone after this year and who knows how far Manziel is from graduating
