Those are the radical proposes that will never happen. They will never raise or lower the rim in basketball because of how expensive it would be across the board.

Some things I do think they will do, not just women's but the game in general. I believe in the next 2-5 years the court will be widened, probably about 5 feet. The shot clock will go down to 30 in men's, I'm guessing college will go to the NBA end where you can move the ball up if you have a timeout. I think TO's will be cut by at least 1 if not 2.

Its just a few little things like that. I'm guessing the NBA, and possibly some conferences might go to a pick um style in the playoffs/conference tournaments where the top seed gets to pick who they want to play, and on the way down. (that way you aren't losing for a seed).

Some things need to be changed, but some things never will.

How would you widen the court in Frost 5 feet? Gonna get rid of the courtside seats?

I hope not - takes away the advantage a really good full-court pressing team has. That, along with the women not having the ten second rule have to be two of the dumber rules in basketball.

I actually love how teams can move up the ball to half court. I also hope they move the shot clock to 30 in men's bball. Also would like to see womens basketball employ a backcourt violation. Another thing I would like is the college bball to have more of a continuation rule. Not quite as ridiculous as NBA, but those are what I would like to see.

If you think lowering the rim is expensive, try widening the court 5 feet. That's a lot of premium seats....won't happen

I agree!! Often times it is referred to thinking outside the box Many of these concepts have been tried in leagues that no longer exist. There are many activities pulling for the consumer dollars and some things like women's basketball may be affected. At this point, the SDSU women have not been pulled down as far as some programs. It may have to do with the winning and the activities available in this area. Many of the men's March Madness games appeared to have less than full arenas for games. They may have stretched the consumer a bit thin with all the sites in the early rounds. Tweaks would be a better approach such as time of shot clock or 10 second rule. We can never expect no change.

Instead of just looking at the one or two most outrageous ideas from the study, how about looking at some of the more sane ones. Here are all the ideas listed in the article:

                  24 sec shot clock
                  widen the lane
                  lower the rim
give extra points for winning quarter/half (I personally find this one the most stupid)
restrictions on defense outside the 3pt line at certain times
reduce scholarships from 15 to 13
shorten the season by at least 2 games; additional support within WBB to shorten by 4 or 6 games
crunch the season so practices start in late-Nov instead of the current mid-Oct
allow top-16 seeds to host 1st & 2nd round games
reduce regionals from 4 to 2
set a multi-year site to host the final four like the college world series does

I call it meddling,or trying to fix something that's not broken, making it worse.

If only I could think as positively as you do,that something good will come out of this report.

WBB needs a strong kick in da butt! Attendence is down, there are 4 schools that dominate the landscape (UConn, Baylor, Stanford, Notre Dame). Within the Summit, the league messed up a good draw (double headers with the men), attendence was down. There is an interest in scoring. Personally, I'd like the same rules as international play. That way, there is no difference in what happens, regardless of where they play.

Can there be a way to limit the recruiting advantage of the BCS schools? How does the NCAA increase equality in D-I? Does there need to be cap on success? I hope that more can be done to have teams that more equally matched. It's just ridiculous that teams can go 39-0 year after year.

How has SDSU become the school to beat in the Summit? Why has the 8x D-2 champ (NDSU) fallen so low? What's needed at SDSU or in SD or the Summit League to elevate the game? IMHO, the women's championship of the Summit 2013 was a pinnacle for success.

I kind of liked the quarter points system the old CBA used. A team would get one point (in the standings) for each quarter of a game that it won, plus the winner of the game would get five points (or something like that). It kept players and fans in the game, even in 25-point blow-outs, because the loser still could pick up a point or two.

My fear is that in an attempt to increase womens hoops attendence, they will make a carnival side show out of it by getting too far removed from the way they play the game now.If that happens,it'll destroy the game instead of reviving it.I might be OK with minor changes that don't cause there to be a drastic difference between the mens and womens games.I like the way it is now,i guess I'm saying,i don't like change for change's sake.

I agree that certain schools have a monopoly on NCAA championships, but these proposed changes won't help aleviate that,it's more about perserving the status quo ,but trying to make more money, and willing, in the process,of taking a chance of ruining womens basketball

After skimming through the report it doesn't look like they're considering "change for changes sake". Last year scoring per game,2pt and 3pt shooting percentages were at an all-time low. 205 of 336 teams had an home attendance average of 1000 or less, with 90 of those at less than a 500 average. Also, TV ratings are down. They're saying the sport has plateaued which sometimes is ok but in this case i don't think you want to level out at those numbers.

While i'm not much of a womens bb fan iv'e always thought it was a mistake to make the sport like the mens. It's not and never will be, which is fine. Womens bb should create their own identity which would mean making more rule changes.
