I had the same discussion with friends right after the USD loss. It would have never happened, the only reason Kentucky is on the road is because there are games at Rupp, and they weren't going to send them far, and Callapari is from Pittsburgh, and just down the road from where Robert Morris is located. But ultimately we figured the NCAA tournament would be better, as you get way more attention just for going. Last year might have been different, but since we had gone last year, it would have been a downer not to go to the tournament. Even if you get a Kentucky like school at home.

U missed my point. Replace Robert Morris with SDSU at Frost. That's my question. I know I doesn't happen very often but it IS happening right now. We would beat this team at a full-throat Frost...no doubt in my mind.

Full discloaure...I would take the NCAA bid because of the week of exposure. But man Frost sure would be rockin tonight!!

OK, yes it would be cool, yes SDSU could beat this Kentucky team, yes it would bring attention to Frost, and to SDSU. But program wise, it is much better to go to the tournament. $ wise, attention wise, everything else wise.

Struggling at the 13 minute mark. Kentucky down 9 at free throw line.

Kentucky falls to Robert Morris by 2! What a difference a year makes for that program.

Obviously Kentucky will be just fine, as they're bringing in the top recruiting class in the nation again next year. It just shows that talent can't always replace experience.

I think it'll be interesting to see who leaves for the NBA this year from Kentucky. Other than Nerlens Noel and maybe Caulley-Stein, I'm not sure if anyone else won't be sitting on the back end of an NBA bench or get a D-League assignment for their first few seasons. Then again, they could be sitting on Kentucky's bench as well if they don't elevate their games.

True. Though for the last third of the season, Kentucky was going against experience and missing their best player due to injury. So there's that.

I can't follow the logic of banking on next year's recruiting class when this year's recruiting class was a colossal dud.

I mean, sure, Noel got hurt, but shoot. Not only did they miss the NCAAs, they lost to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT. You would think that the "best recruiting class" in the country could've delivered at least a first round win in the NIT, even without Nerlens Noel.

It's not the best recruiting class in the country without Noel, though. And again, they had a bad year. It's Kentucky with Calipari. They are only one year removed from a national championship and every big time player wants to play there. Some years will go like this year, but most won't. They will be fine.*

Also, their recruiting class for next year still might include Andrew Wiggens (until someone convinces Nagy to give him a suitcase full of cash), who is the best high school player in the country.

And as much as everyone wants teams to do it the "right way," that way is gone. I love all of the faux outrage levied by old, white sports writers.
