That is an option but I do agree though that the Summit should start a football conference, remember that the Valley doesn't run the football part, so its possible that a UNI or a Missouri State could come with. And the other leagues find another league.

I expect a Minnesota school to go D-I, I think with UNO doing it fairly successfully that St. Cloud State and Mankato both want to. I'd be surprised though if either (especially St. Cloud St.) brought football with them to D-I. Similar to Nebraska, I think the Gophers wouldn't allow it, plus title IX issues and money.

I'm all for making the Summit stronger, and I'm 100% for adding Northern Colorado and UND (as long as their name is taken care of)

I'm curious to see if their will be any "guest" at the conference tournament. remember that UNO was just visiting and a week later they were part of the conference.

Honestly if we are talking Summit football. Grand Valley State would be an option.

That said I have no idea what is going with the Summit, the league had a golden opportunity to invite UND in for baseball and they didn't. Douple has been pretty quiet as of late as well.

That's a terrible sep down from the MVFC...no way this woud go with NDSU supporters

My guess is that whatever happens, it won't be what WE, sitting here in the Upper Midwest, would consider optimal.

Indiana State's beat writer seems to think we would be a good addition...

            1. School has to be the No. 1 team in its city or state. The market has to be large enough to be worth the league's while for media/TV, etc.
@thejohnpollock Hint, hint ... I'm referring to the Dakota schools.

Very few schools in the MVC footprint fit the first criteria. All 10 MVC schools get everyday media coverage. Few Midwest schools get same.

Also, Bradley "has made overtures to the Catholic 7 schools who are forming their own version of the Big East Conference."

Sean Keeler, a Fox Sports columnist for Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports KC says teams discussed for a replacement of Creighton are Milwaukee, Denver, Wright St, Loyola Ill, NDSU, and UNO. He makes no mention of SDSU which is odd they wouldn't even be discussed. Check out his twitter account @SeanKeeler. I would link but am posting off my phone.

Also said a MVC Admin told him its a 90-10 chance Creighton is gone.

It sounds more or less like those are teams that he has heard mentioned, nothing official like these are the schools we are looking at. Denver wouldn't shock me (private school), but Omaha would (while in transition) as would NDSU by themselves (bus league in non basketball sports).

Creighton is gone, the question is whether its next year or in two years. The league I get a feeling has similar issues to the MVFC and Summit League where you have an east block and a west block, they also have a private and public blocks as well. Do the private schools want to add a public school? Do the eastern schools want to have to replace the furthest school Creighton with a school that is 7 hours further?

At the same time do they want to add a school right now?

And a school that I wouldn't be shocked if the name is brought up is Gonzaga, I think they want out of the WCC, especially with St. Marys now in trouble, and I'm betting that the travel issues wouldn't be a big deal if they were to get them on board.

Tonight's KSDK sports said that Butler and Creighton were in and SLU out. Not sure why they'd turn down the Jesuits for the Disciples of Christ, but Indy is probably a better sports town.

My guess is ESPN made the decision, generally though the Catholic schools stay together, heck maybe Butler will be Catholic come Monday

His earlier tweet was a tiny bit different:

Teams believed to have been discussed: Milwaukee, Denver, Loyola (Ill), Wright St, NDakota St, Neb-Omaha. For starters.
I don't doubt SDSU was part of the "For starters" group.

Looks like there's a lot of "what have you done for me lately" going around.

Which, come to think of it, is a point in SDSU's favor.

I think if it was 5-7 years ago that UW-Milwaukee would be the obvious choice, however they have fallen pretty hard since Bruce Pearl left (305 RPI this season)

I still think if they only add one it will be a private school.
