They also recently added Grand Canyon College, a team that will start the transition next year.

Wonder who will be next? New Mexico State will leave at the first opportunity and that opportunity may come soon since the Sunbelt just lost two more teams to C-USA.

The WAC needs to absorb the GWC to survive.

All that is left is NJIT

Chicago State - to the WAC 2013
Houston Baptist - to the Southland 2013
          New Jersey Institute of Technology
University of Texas Pan Am - Invitation to the WAC for 2013, waiting for governing board to approve to make it offical
Utah Valley University - to the WAC 2013

The only team left is NJIT assuming UTPA accepts the offer they have received. With the addition of UTPA the WAC will temporarily be at 8 schools with no other logical teams who are currently DI to add if NMSU leaves. (Idaho is also a member for one more year.) There is a rumor that Quinnipac (sp?) and Monmouth are going from the Northeast to the MAAC which should open up space for NJIT in the the Northeast. If that were to happen, the only school with out a conference for most of their sports would be East Carolina who moved their football to the Big East which resulted in dropping all of the other sports out of C-USA. But who knows what changes will be announced that will further shake things up?

                Gross!

I wonder what all those dopey commenters from Denver who poo-pooed the Summit are thinking now. The Summit looks like the Big 10 compared to the anemic, pathetic, desperate WAC.
                  Holy nutmeg!

And what surprises me about this is that the WAC could have parlayed its autobid into a second western FCS conference, if they had the foresight to do so:

Denver, Seattle, CSUB, NAU, Weber State, UNC, Sac-State, Portland State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley; boom. Small footprint (well, excepting Seattle/Portland State), easier path to the FCS & basketball tournaments, there you go.

It's not like any of those schools would be foregoing a heap of cash by dropping out of the Big Sky.
