    Re: MSU-Mankato FB Coach Arrested

Minnesota AP reported today the judge in Coach Hoffner's case dismissed the child pornography charges, citing a lack of evidence.

Perfect timing too with the Mavericks playoff game tomorrow (sarcasm). In all seriousness, the team has been fun to watch this year because of the adversity they have overcome and because of the quality product on the field. Hopefully they get a W tomorrow. Mavericks at noon and Jacks at three for me tomorrow.

Sad. Gotta be damn sure you have something before you bring stuff like that into the publics eye. Unfortunately his rep is tarnished forever.

Really? If anything, more people will come to his defense now than ever before. Obviously this wasn't a positive situation, but the fact is that he stuck to his story the whole time and was proven correct. There's no way that will tarnish his rep.

Have to agree some. Wouldn't blame him if he didn't want to stay in the area.

Back in the days of film (early nineties?), Walmart got pretty aggressive in going after parents who took pictures of their kids in the tub, remember a couple of stories. Of course that was during the time of all the nursery school witchcraft-child abuse trials in North Carolina, Minnesota and California.

I think one has to wonder if the Penn State debacle hadn't occurred last year if the people involved both at the school and University wouldn't have taken a little more time to figure it out.

Put yourself in the shoes of someone on a search committee for a head coaching position and his resume comes up. The backstory will be known. Tell me that wouldn't make you hesitate to hire the guy. Not right, but reality.

Someone will give him a chance. No doubt about that. May take a year or more to have this fall behind him a little, but he'll be coaching again.

The real side story to this is the job the interim head coach has done. I read an article a few weeks back where the guy that's running the team this year said he hasn't talked to Hoffner since the day he was arrested. He's running the team his way. Now THAT guy will be getting a head coaching job soon if Mankato doesn't retain him.

This makes for an interesting scenerio. I agree with what you have said. This has to be an ackward situation for all concerned. An aggressive attorney no doubt sees $$$$ all over the place, but is it the right thing to do? That is sue MSU-Mankato? Seems it would be more workable to see if he can get his head job back? If not, then what? And what about the interim coach?

Well, Augustana is looking for a head coach.

Never thought about that. Might be answer for one or the other.

I had lunch at Minerva's a couple of months ago. Guy at the table next to ours was holding forth on how this football coach from Mankato was evil, making home sex tapes with his children, and should be put away for life. He had read about this in the Argus and so it must be true.

I don't believe Augie would even consider looking at him.

                                This.

More importantly, put yourself in the shoes of his future son/daughter in-laws. How comfortable are they going to be letting grandpa spend time alone with his grand kids? There will always be a kernel of doubt in their minds.

What a joke. I hope he gets some kind of compensation.
