Mobridge, SD, native Jim Scherr, recently the head of the US Olympic Committee, was named as the Commish for the National Collegiate Hockey Conference which will start play in 2013-14. Scherr and his twin brother, Bill, wrestled in the 1988 Olympics. Bill was a bronze medalist.
The NCHC will include Denver, Colorado College, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota-Duluth, Nebraska-Omaha, UND, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan. It was formed as a result of the Big 10 adding hockey to its stable of sports.
