Re: BHSU granted invitation to RMAC SDSM&T not
Bad news for Mines. Puts them on a small island.
Wasn't there a plan once to consolidate to a single liberal arts university West River and roll the Mines engineering programs into SDSU College of Engineering? You know that you're over the hill when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill. - L. George

Re: BHSU granted invitation to RMAC SDSM&T not
It is interesting how the musical chairs keep happening on conference affiliation. BHSU had to tour an RMAC school as part of their transition to the RMAC. So they were assigned to spend a couple of days at the University of Nebraska, Kearney last week.
UNK will be in their final year in the RMAC this next school year. They have won 14 of the first 16 all-sports "cup" championships in the RMAC. UNK will be transferring to the MIAA conference to follow two of their natural rivals, Fort Hayes State in Kansas and UNO. Northwest Missouri State has been the big dog in that conference. Fort Hays State left the RMAC a few years ago for the MIAA. UNO will obviously be out of the MIAA, so UNK will not be able to fulfill their desire to play UNO on a regular basis.
Congrats to BHSU on getting their offer to join a fine D-II conference. It is too bad the SDSM&T didn't get an offer. They are kind of stuck on an island now. While they had more work to do to compete at that level, I think they could have had a chance. Colorado SM&T in Golden has been very competitive in the RMAC for years and they recruit the same type of student that SDSM&T does.

That is just kinda what I had heard, personally I'd like to see them get in, but don't mind them not getting in right away.
My $0.02 on the matter. SDTech will eventually get in. My guess...they'll get a invite within a year or two. I read that the RMAC still wants to go up to 16 or 18 (12 to 14 in football).
The one that still puzzles me is Eastern New Mexico. From all I've read, they wanted to join the RMAC but at the last second (in a matter of speaking) said no thanks. ENMU's prez even called the RMAC about the same time all the Oklahoma-based Lone Star Conference schools were announcing they were all leaving.
Honestly I don't see Colorado College ever rejoining the RMAC (was a member in it's early years).

Re: BHSU granted invitation to RMAC SDSM&T not
Seriously, how long does Tech expect to survive as an independent? They are surrounded by large conferences that have little use for a significant non-conference schedule. In addition, many of today's D2 schools have fewer resources to take trips to Rapid City each year (IIRC, the old NCC schools whined about the trip to Northern Colorado).
It wouldn't surprise me if the Regents eventually pulled the plug on Tech's athletic programs if they don't get in the RMAC.
