Booze, it does wonderful things for people. Young people often make life altering decisions while under its influence. Most of the time, they get away with being foolish. These guys really stepped in it. I hope they are punished appropriately and I hope they both decide not to drink anymore.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

Or drink more appropriately.

No, they already proved they cannot do that. Why is it wrong to expect them not to use alcohol? Is life impossible to enjoy without it? Who needs to be assaulted or worse next?
People who behave this way under the influence should just remain sober. It's very likely this incident is not a first for either of them, it's more likely the first time they have been caught. However, in our society drinking is encouraged so what are we to expect?

It's NOT normal behavior and thats what makes those who have had problems with alchohol kind of bristle when its written off as a bad night and too much to drink. What it really amounts to is an indication of things to come if they continue this normal drinking.
You would hope these two young fellows will learn from this incident. There is a lot of life left for these guys, and if do not learn from this incident, it could be more serious next time around. Believe me, I know.

Exactly. Assaulting someone who is trying to do their job is unacceptable and I think even more so when those committing the crime are under the influence. That means they have made several bad decisions that day and indicates a lack of responsibility. Is it fair that they are front page news when some individual in a less prominent position might not be? I think it is, that is reality.
They have a great chance to set a good example. Embrace the opportunity and make the best of a very bad situation. Life will go on and I bet you both these young men find their way back on the right path. First step, leave the alcohol for someone else.

Do they have team rules? I know when I played spring ball at SDSU in 1974 we could not go to the bars or imbibe till practice was over after the spring game.

Yes, they have rules, but Chris Johnson did not give details. He did say this:
"Our number one rule is to never do anything that would embarass yourself, your family, your team, or your university".
I think that is a rule that is echoed by most colleges everywhere. I would say these young men went 0 for 4.
