  • UNL v Kansas State

I've wondered whether college coaches consult with other college coaches about common opponents. After SDSU showed the Nebraska vulnerabilities, would Kansas State's coaches call SDSU's coaches? Would such a call violate some arcane NCAA rule? Is it unethical? Perhaps a major-conference school coach wouldn't contact a mid-major school coach as in "they figured it out, we should too".

I think my question is being answered tonight.

Nebraska 44, Kansas State 6 with 12:20 to go in the 4th.

Instead of watching the game tape of SDSU's game the K-State coaches probably decided our game was a fluke and copied how U-DUB did it.

Taylor Martinez had 241 yards rushing on 15 carries!

Maybe Kansas State would be a more formible foe, and we could still get some cash out of the deal.

Would love to compare game tape from the SDSU & K-State games....

I wonder if *any* Big Twelve team will be smart enough to recognize the value of the schemes (i.e. two linebackers spying Martinez and STAYING HOME on him--keeping him behind the line of scrimmage, pushing the ball up the middle against their small linebacker corps). Or if they'll completely ignore that game tape because they've got nothing to learn from an FCS team playing with FCS players with an FCS coach.

Flipping between the K-St/Neb game and the ALCS (d*mned Yankees), I was incredibly impressed that about every 3 min, the announcers were commenting about the SOUTH DAKOTA STATE game with Nebraska.

            1) Impressed that they said South Dakota State every time.
            2) Contrasted the success that SDSU had vs the other Husker opponents.

Okay, I get that you, as a coach, don't want to let the other team dictate the way you play.

But sheesh. When you're going up against a team like Nebraska (this year, at least), you have to play to their weaknesses, not your strengths.

Heck, maybe that was Stig's secret: He KNEW he couldn't come in and force the Huskers to play the Jacks' game (even though, in the end they did end up playing Jackrabbit style ball). He knew they would have to out-think the Huskers. Do these other coaches know this? Are they willing to admit it to themselves and their staff?

Maybe its just me. I don't think you can draw much in comparison. 2 completely different mindsets for NU. I understand, same talent on the field. Jacks played well, NU didn't. Yesterday NU played well, KSU didn't. Those are the facts. Either way SDSU lost another game and I don't ever feel good about that.

I agree completely, and was thinking the same thing.

Still, after watching Martinez run all over K-State last night, it made what SDSU did a little more impressive, in my opinion.

The best was when they shows Martinezes stats, SDSU was only game under 100 yards and no TD runs.

wish they would have pointed that out or highlights how well we did against him, but I am sure they would call it a fluke.
