Really? I didn't think anyone was being idiotic. Most likely stating some opinions coupled with some tongue in cheek, but hardly rises to the level of idiotic or compares to some things you read on Bisonville! You know, the moderators over there did take Lakesbison off of probation...

Thanks as this is what I was getting at. Not a stupid never ending argument about the legalization of smoking weed.

RO neg rep'd me also. Me thinks it's pretty obvious what his stance on pot is. I would be proud.

Well I don't know the gentleman from Vermillion, and I certainly don't know if he is an idiot. He may be, he may not. The thing I do know is that he had the guts to actually get in the race. I may not agree with his opinion about marijuana, but he does have the courage to stand by his opinions when the easiest thing to do would have been the exact opposite of what he has done. He believes marijuana should be legalized and isn't running from it. In the story his opponent says he is working to bring more tourists to town. If you truly believe in either position, which one takes more guts to run on? As far as we know from this story, his opponent agrees with him on the marijuana issue.

It's a little hard to run from it when you have the charges pending that he has. What other stance is he suppose to take at this time? If he hadn't been busted, would he be taking this strong of a stance...I think not.

He could have done what several on this board have suggested, quit the race.

Is it just me or does this kind of stuff only happen in Vermillion? You can't make it up!

No, it's not just you, it does only happen in Vermillion. Brookings is so awesome. SDSU is so awesome.

1.) Only people in Vermillion smoke pot or make ridiculous statements.
2.) Only fans in Vermillion swear or say naughty things during sporting events.
3.) Only fans in Vermillion misbehave to the point their arch rival doesn't want to play them.
4.) Only fans in Brookings are knowledgable about sports and the world and no where else

Why would anybody live anywhere on earth but Brookings?

Since graduating, I have frequently contemplated the bolded. Lived a few great places since, but Brookings is right up there in my book.

Vermillion has had its share of strange occurrences but such problems are not unique to Vermillion as a Google search will confirm. (Doesn't anyone recall places like Madison, Wisconsin in the 70s?)

Not too many years ago, a newly elected States Attorney in Deuel County was busted for possession of marijuana, run out of office and disbarred. In that case, I commented that he ran for the wrong office: Based on his stated views, he should have run for the legislature where he could try to change the law rather than run for the office sworn to prosecute law violations.

I have to admit that I felt Vermillion had more than its share of unique individuals but I found that to be a positive, not a negative. There were some real funny events. Brookings has had some characters too and they make life in a university town a little off-beat and humorous.

I'd bet most in Vermillion would prefer to see the guy just go away. We'll see if I would win that bet when the election results are counted.

Your sarcasm is noted but I think most SDSU grads will tell you Brookings is a great community while I do not think most USD grads will say the same about Vermillion. This may not be so much a knock on Vermillion as it is a pat on the back for Brookings.

Eh, Vermillion is kind of a **** hole. Not really a fan of the town. There are definitely some places that I enjoy (friends and family), but the town itself isn't very great.
