Even though binge drinking and alcohol are topics of high concern in SD, this article focuses on binge drinking in Brookings and with SDSU students in particular. A recent survey showed that about half of SDSU students were likely to binge drink, prompting the City Council to consider ordinances that would increase regulation of the local bars (such as rutlawing/restricting drink specials). In addition, the Argus website selected this question for its online poll today (inspired by the SDSU SafeRide program that was spearheaded by El Presidente):

Is it a good idea for communities to provide public transportation to help ensure people get safe rides home from bars?

Will be interesting how the owners and patrons accept those changes.

I don't see how you can say that keeping intoxicated drivers off the road is a bad thing, even with public funds.
