It looks like our friends to the south are ramping up their scholarship program. USD has a scholarship program called the Promise Scholarship which is similar to SDSU’s Jackrabbit Guarantee. The two programs have been nearly identical in qualifications and funding. USD is increasing the dollar amount and modifying the qualifications standards according to a recent article in the Volante:
“For the new Promise Plus Scholarship Program, the 24 score or higher on the ACT will be the base of criteria. A 3.0 GPA or higher may also qualify a student for a scholarship. Depending on how well incoming students do in high school, they can earn up to $2,000.
"We're giving grades just as much weight as we do the ACTs so we kind of expanded that program to encompass more," Foster said. "...Obviously the higher their ACT score or the higher their GPA, the more toward that $2,000 mark they could get."
The program will have four levels of scholarships - Promise, Achievement, Distinction and Leadership.”
