Had a brother who attended USD in 1951-52, and I used to go over and over his USD year book page by page. One of the very good football players pictured was Burdell Coplan. Another photo that stuck in my mind was Ordell Braase, he was on the same team and made it to the NFL with Doug Eggers and Steve Myra kicker from UND. We can say 1951 was a great year for USD. They tied SDSU 21-21 but went on to win the NCC. My condolences to Burdell's family. Through his many years of coaching he touched a number of lives, and no doubt help build good citizens. In the coaching circles he will be missed.
