Ill State drives down for an opening drive field goal.

JimmyJack

Illinois State marches down the field and takes a 3-0 lead, 12 plays, 59 yards. NDSU's defense? Not good.

Bison show good run defense on first drive but can't stop the quick passes. Il St makes it's field goal and go up 3 to 0. Pretty good drive for IL ST

JACKGUYII

Ill State coach commented before the game that SDSU and NDSU are mirror images of each other with the exception of the skill positions where he thought NDSU had more speed.

Nidaros
10-03-2009, 01:42 PM
Mertens connected on a long pass to WR Williams now 7-3 Bison. Merten can throw and this Williams guy has got some speed. He was way out in front of the ISU secondary.

The Bison better not lose this at home or Bisonville will melt down.

The Bison D against bubble passes has not been good and that is really a vulnerable part of their game. If you are watching, even Scott Miller does not deny that weakness.

JACKGUYII

Anyone else think Crawford could have a big day throwing those short passes against the Bison?

How bad did we beat Illinois State? They're having their way with the Bison right now.

Illinois State drives again to take a 17-7 lead. NDSU's defense is as terrible as all the bisonville posters have said.

Nidaros
10-03-2009, 02:18 PM
Half time, Illinois State is controlling at this point. NDSU seems to have the talent, but they are not getting the production they should. Thank you Mike Breske SDSU alum and D coordinator at NDSU.

JimmyJack
10-03-2009, 02:24 PM
Yes they are, they cannot tackle. It's what Stig preaches, keep a 5 yard completion a 5 yard gain. Ill State has been consistently turning 1 yard passes into 6 yard gains by dragging Bison defenders.

NDSU doesn't seem to react quickly. For example on those WR screens, our LBs were there shadowing the receiver. NDSU's linebackers seem to be five or six yards away when the WRs start running. I'd keep throwing those until NDSU shows they can stop it.

And as the radio guys just mentioned: No pressure on Brown by NDSU. He's just playing pitch and catch.

RowdyRabbit
10-03-2009, 02:27 PM
Yeah, I've got to say, I thought the bisonville posters were going a little over the top about how poor their D is....but maybe they really are that poor on D.

I fully expected to log on and see Bison up.

JACKGUYII

I expect the Bison to come out and play well in the second half.

RowdyRabbit
10-03-2009, 02:45 PM
That may have been the ugliest 3rd and 1 play I've ever seen.

Bison punt.

JimmyJack
10-03-2009, 02:50 PM
Mertens has a very low delivery, below 3/4 it looks like to me. No wonder he gets so many passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.

sfjacksfan99
10-03-2009, 02:50 PM
WOW, suicide watch on in Fargo. I thought I would check the score quick expecting 17-7 Bison...ooops.

Their early success when they/Jacks started in the FCS may have been one of the worst things for them. Expectations are way too high. However, if they do go 1-4, expectations should definately be higher than that.

Good luck in the second half Bison. And if you guys can somehow bring back the former homefield advantage of the Fargodome next week against UNI, it would be appreciated in Jackrabbit Nation. And then leave it in Fargo for the next week.

sfjacksfan99
10-03-2009, 02:53 PM
They keep asking for Moehler on Bisonville. I thought he was one of the players that got in enough trouble in the offseason for the Bison to be removed from the team?

sfjacksfan99
10-03-2009, 03:18 PM
And the Bison fans take a step back from the edge of the cliff.

BTW: They do a horrible job on Bisonville of posting down/distance/score/time left/etc. All they do is piss and moan.

JimmyJack
10-03-2009, 03:26 PM
Tie game. Bison had 3rd and 6, Mertens threw one of the worst passes I have seen today (and I've been watching a lot of football) that was almost picked. Bison settle for a FG. 17-17 with about 10 minutes to go.

JimmyJack
10-03-2009, 03:35 PM
23 yd FG for ISU. ISU leads 20-17 with 8:32 to play.

Bison fans have to be very disappointed in this effort. We're talking about a team that SDSU's #1 defense didn't allow to score a TD last week. The Redbirds will probably finish second or third from the bottom in the MVFC. NDSU's porous defense is making ISU look like UNI.

JimmyJack
10-03-2009, 03:41 PM
Yeah, but Paschal looks like a potential fumbler to me. He runs straight up, and while he's shifty, he takes some pretty good licks.

TD Bison. They lead 24-20.

4:53 left. Took Illinois State about 2 minutes to score last time they had the ball.

TD ISU. Easy. They RAN it in. 27-24 ISU. 1:24 left.

This is the first time I've watched NDSU this year. They are a really bad team. I suppose there are lots of talented players there. But they cannot get it done. We'll see if they can somehow drive down for a FG.

NoVaJack
10-03-2009, 03:52 PM
Illinois State just scored to go ahead with less than 2 left. Their qb had a big play on a naked bootleg that faked out the NDSU defensive end so bad the defender never even got a look that way. NDSU defense is not very good on that series.

JimmyJack
10-03-2009, 03:52 PM

Huge, huge mental mistake from the Bison. on a long run that would have put them at the 8 with 50 seconds left, an offensive lineman far, far behind the play takes a cheap shot on the opposing bench. Such plays are losing seasons made of.

Favorite quote on Bisonville, from OrygunBison: "From a positive view, at least the offense gets the ball back with virtually no chance of the D getting back on the field."

Jacks clobbered this team on their home field and they go up and stick it to the Bison a week later. You gotta hand it to Illinois State. That's a big win for them.

This year NSDU has a lot of early verbal commitments and I always wondered why they would offer so early in the year. Now I know why. The head coach must have figured that they would only get a few victories this year and therefore would not get the players he wants if he waited until the season played out.

Can already hear the Bison fans. Something about the refs losing the game for them, just like how they did against SDSU that past 2 years.

I think that's been true in the past but not this year. The writing's on the wall about this Bison team and most of what I hear and read from Bison fans is they recognize their team just isn't very good. (Even so, as filbert has noted: I'm not counting out any team in this conference -- and none of our opponents for the remainder of this season should count out the Jackrabbits!)

And for all of you who assailed the department in the past for not televising the NDSU game, you will get your wish and I believe we will lose some big bucks in Bison revenue come Oct. 17 because of that.

JackJD
10-04-2009, 06:01 PM
Jacks#1Fan is right. At this stage in our development, we need revenue: people buying tickets and sitting in the stands. With the Bison playing poorly compared to expectations at the start of the season, I'm concerned about the attendance.

:) The good news: we just have to talk it up so that more Jack fans show up to watch us beat a determined but struggling Bison team.

here here. if you can't fill your own stadium with your own fans the debate over televising/revenue generation is moot. It's why the NFL's blackout policy exists. Don't think anyone here was "rooting" for anything other than Jack success.

Most of the NDSU fans bought their tickets already (from what I saw when picking out the seats I wanted for the game). If they want to sit at home instead of making the trip to Brookings, we got their money. BUT, with their teams chance to get the marker back, I really don't think they are going to miss this game.

JACKGUYII
10-05-2009, 11:43 AM
You hope the Dakota Marker game has got to the point where it's not about the wins/losses each team brings to the game, but rather the rivalary and celebration of two pier institutions who took a big step together into the DI world. If the Bison only travel when they expect to win than they are not the kind of fan base that I thought they were.

JimmyJack
10-05-2009, 12:26 PM
I suppose it's all speculation, but maybe their struggles will make MORE of them come to the Dakota Marker game. After all, if your season isn't going to end in the playoffs, a rivalry game only becomes a bigger point of emphasis.

I was told that sections A-L (all of the west side) are sold out and that R and N on the east side are sold out as well, and most of P and T are gone. So I think we will have a good crowd no matter how bad the Bison are.

Our tailgating lot was PACKED and there were lots of fans at the game...and the Bison were 1-3 going into homecoming. Let's not cut down the Bison fan base as fairweather fans. Don't expect the same turnout as you saw in 2007, but I guarantee we bring plenty of fans regardless of the UNI game outcome this weekend. I am actually suprised how well the turnout has been considering the nightmare of the last 7-8 months and after last year's letdown.

I can't see too many teams that would have the same fan support given the Bison football team's situation. It makes me more proud to be an alum and fan although it's not as fun as winning:)

With that said, the Bison are a bad team. There is no way that the refs cost us that game. The team's deficiencies could be taken advantage of my 8 year old's flag football team.

JBB123

It all adds up when you have a few bad calls mixed with mistakes. Its not going to work too often, but the refs did make some pretty absurd calls. I wouldnt call the BISON bad, i would say they dont know how to win though. They have been in a position to win every game and we have faced some of the best teams in the country. SDSU lost to Cal Poly but other than that its been fairly easy.

I have 4 tickets around the 50 on the BISON side. Im not sure what the roll call will be for BISON fans.
