  • 12/17 games

    Oakland 70, Valparaiso 68

Notre Dame 74, Fort Wayne 62

Western Illinois 70, Eastern Illinois 68

Western Illinois seems to be scoring more points this season. Tough defense and now offensive production too? ADDED LATER: The WIU score was WIU women, not men.

Is it just my perception, or is the Summit doing pretty well outside league play this year? Every team except Omaha has at least 4 wins so far. Is this better than in years past?

I went back and checked last year's records and compared to this year.

Summit teams are 42-49 in non-conference games so far.

Last year on the season, Summit teams went 78-63 in non-conference play.

WIU didn't play EIU tonight. They beat EIU on 12/5, 57-45. WIU plays UIC tomorrow night.

The conference RPI is down four or five spots. ORU is much better than UNO. Also, very few signature wins for the conference.

That is a big game for the Summit, UIC is a very good mid-major..Oakland beating Valpo was also nice.

I didn't report correctly. The WIU win over EIU was for women, 70-68.

UIC only won 8 games last season, and is picked to finish 8th in the nine-team Horizon League.

You might want to take a look at what they've done this year...

                      http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...chicago-flames

They are also #15 in the Mid-Major Poll and #12 in the ESPN Mid-Major Power Rankings

Leathernecks are real deal and they are gaining confidence. They open conference with Oakland. Good games coming.

                          Re: 12/17 games

Really need to have WIU, NDSU, and SDSU continue playing well and OAK to turn it around and win a few more OOC games. The bottom half of the Summit is really weak, and the only chance the league has of avoiding a 15-16 seed is if there are a few teams hovering around the top 50-75 in RPI come selection time.

It's early yet, but here are the current RPI standings: http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html

A few highlights from that list:

                            SDSU #162.
                            NDSU #73.
                            Oakland #164.
                            WIU #198
                            KC #222
                            USD #269.
                            IPFW #278.
                            IUPUI #286.
                            UNO #294.
Once the OOC season ends, there is going to be very little upward mobility for the Summit. Big wins are needed this week!

A few other RPI's worth noting:
                            New Mexico #7
                            Minnesota #11
                            Alabama #45
                            Belmont #25
                            Montana #174.
                            Denver #255.
                            UND #341.
                            ORU #132

We obviously have a chance to make a big jump if we win one or both of the next two games.

Hofstra is at #302. That was a TERRIBLE loss for the Jacks, on par or worse than the UND and USD losses last season
