    Re: 2011 Summit League

    Projected Starting Line-ups
(not counting incoming freshman because I don't know who most teams are bringing in, and usually true freshman don't start)

    Returning Starters with an *

Pos - Year - Player - Pts, Reb, Ast

    Oakland
    PG - SR Reggie Hamilton* - 12, 2.5, 3.5
    SG - SR Larry Wright* - 11, 2.5, 1.5
    SG - JR Blake Cushingberry - 5, 2, .5
    SF - JR Drew Maynard* - 5, 2.5, 1
    C - SR Keith Benson* - 17, 10.5, 1

Losing Jones & Nelson hurts but adding UMKC transfer Hamilton and if they get Benson back they will still be in good shape.

    IUPUI
    PG - SR John Ashworth* - 4.5, 2.5, 5
    SG - SR Leroy Nobles* - 13.5, 4, 1.5
    SG - SO Sean Esposito - 2.5, 1, .5
    SF - JR Alex Young* - 18.5, 4.5, 1.5
    PF - JR Christian Siakam - 1.5, 1, 0

IUPUI returns a couple good players in Ashworth & Nobles, and a stud in Alex Young. But unless they add some JUCO transfers (which they are know to do) they will be hurting at PF & C with virtually no experience or depth.

    ORU
    PG - JR Roderick Pearson* - 4.5, 3.5, 2.5
    SG - SO Warren Niles* - 13, 3.5, 2
    SF - JR Dominique Morrison*- 15.5, 5, 2.5
    PF - SR Michael Craion* - 13.5, 7.5, 1.5
    C - SR Damen Bell-Holter - 4.5, 3, .5

Oral Roberts only loss is C Kevin Ford, who can be replaced because Bell-Holter (6'10, 245) showed promise playing as a true freshman. ORU's other freshman, Warren Niles, is a lights out shooter and Morrison is a good slasher. ORU has the balance to challenge for the title for the next couple years.

    IPFW
    SG - JR Jeremy Mixon - 7, 1.5, 1
    SG - SR Ben Botts* - 11, 1.5, 2
    SG - SR Zach Plackmeier*- 9, 3, 3.5
    PF - JR Trey McCorkle* - 7, 4, 0.5
    PF - JR Antwone Snead - 5.5, 6.5, 1

The loss of Yearby really stings the Don's as they won't be able to replace his athleticism and his versatility. They return one of the conferences best shooters in Botts and have an experienced team with a decent 7 man rotation.

    SDSU
    PG - SO Nate Wolters - 10, 3.5, 3
    SG - SR Clint Sargent* - 13, 3, 1
    SF - SR Dale Moss*- 5, 4, 1
    PF - SO Tony Fiegen - 3, 2, 0
    C - SR Anthony Cordova* - 8.5, 5, 1

SDSU's success will be determined on how much help the young front court players Fiegen, Dykstra, & Heemstra will be able to contribute. They return one of the conferences best shooters/scorers in Sargent and PG Wolters had a good year especially since he was a true freshman. This team is teetering on either gaining a spot or losing a spot in the standings. Much will depend on if Cordova and Moss can play at the level they played in 09 and not in 10.

    NDSU
    PG - SO Nate Zastrow - 6, 2, 2.5
    SG - SO Mike Felt* - 5.5, 3, 1
    SF - SR Michael Tviedt*- 16, 5, 1.5
    PF - JR Eric Carlson* - 15, 7, 2.5
    C - SO Jordan Aaberg* - 4, 3, 0

NDSU returns two of their top players in Tviedt & Carlson, but the rest of the team is very young and will be either freshman or sophmores. The Bison could be hurting if they don't get another guard or if Coleman can't come back from injury. NDSU will have an increase in talent level next year, but their youth could make it an inconsistent year of ups and downs.

    WIU
    SG - SR Matt Lander- 8, 2, 2
    SG - JR Ceola Clark* - 14, 5, 3
    SF - SO Jelani Johnson - 3, 1.5, 0.5
    PF - SR Jeremy Felton* - 6.5, 3, 1
    C - SR James Granstra* - 6.5, 5, .5

WIU improved the most during the 09 season going from laughable to competitive. Known as a defensive team, Ceola Clark provided the offense and had a coming out party as a sophomore. Project centerman James Granstra had a productive year shooting 53% and blocking 2.5 shots per game. This could be the most intriguing team for next year, especially if they get some good young players or a JUCO.

    Centenary
    PG - SO Pedro Maciel*- 6.5, 2, 3
    SG - JR David Perez* - 15, 2.5, 2
    SG - SO Daman Starring* - 12, 3.5, 2
    SF - SO Matt Marseille* - 7.5, 4, 1
    PF - SO David Swartz - 3.5, 2, 0.5

Centenary won't be able to catch teams off-guard with their quick, guard heavy, 3-ball chucking offense this next season. I predict more of the same for next year since it will be hard to bring in new recruits. That being said, they had some success this year playing alot of freshman and can catch any team off guard if they catch fire.

    Southern Utah
    PG - Scott Friel*- 3, 2, 3
    SG - JR Jake Nielson - 8.5, 3, 3
    SF - SR Ryan Brimley* 8, 2.5, 1.5
    C - SO Matt Hodgson* - 7.5, 4, 1
    C - JR Matt Massey* - 3.5, 2, 0.5

Southern Utah could be hurting next season. Already at the bottom of the pack, they lose their best player by far in Davis Baker. They have couple good big men in Massey and Hodgson, but they will have trouble climbing out of the #10 spot. Even if they bring in a JUCO, I doubt he will be able to replace Baker's production.

    My 2010-11 Summit Standings
    1. Oakland
    2. ORU
    3. IUPUI
    4. SDSU
    5. NDSU
    6. IPFW
    7. WIU
    8. UMKC
    9. Cent
    10 S. Utah

Pretty boring predictions, but I don't see much change for next year.

I think Oakland and Oral Roberts will be at the top, even if Benson goes pro.

IUPUI will be in the upper tier if they can fill their PF & C holes because Young is that good.

The middle tier will be SDSU, NDSU, IPFW, & WIU. These 4 could place in any order.

The bottom tier will once again be UMKC, Cent, & S Utah. If I had to place money on any one thing for next year, it would be that SU turns in another last place finish.

I hope Benson goes for about 35 and 15 in round 1 of the tournament and leads Oakland to a win. He has a degree so if the scouts take a liking to him he might be gone.

An Oakland team without Nelson/Benson/Jones is probably about 5th next year in the league.

Not sure about my Bison, we will bring in a lot of new and some old talent. If Coleman and Felt come back strong our guard situation will be a lot better. I think Bjorklund might start right away, Saul is really high on him.

I didn't realize Benson had his degree already, one would think that he would declare for the draft than. I was surprised that he started out the year as a late first round pick, had a very good year, but than dropped of the board and is listed now as a 2nd round pick for 2011. Without Benson, it would be ORU's to lose.

Agree that if Coleman can play back to where he was and if Felt shows more promise than he did this year that NDSU will finish higher. I also think that by year's end Bjorklund will be starting at Center over Aaberg, maybe even right of the bat. The Bison still have 2 schollies to fill so they are kind of up in the air right now even though it can be harder to find more legitimate talent this late.

Maybe the cellar teams can improve their RPI since they don't lose much. IUPUI may fall lower.

Looks like according to ESPN & Rivals, SDSU has the best recruiting class coming in this year. Of course I realize that it's not he most accurate way to go about it, but it is the only way.

            Some notes:
Looks like USD got a good recruit in Tecker. He turned down some good schools to go to U-dot.

Oakland's PG is 5'11 but it says that he consistently plays above the rim and can dunk in traffic. That will be fun to watch, as long as it's not against the Jacks.

The conference overall looks to be adding alot more height and new big men.

Tecker had a hip injury and needed a surgery. I'm not sure if that affected his offers in the end or not. Either way, I think he has recovered fully and will be a nice player for Boots.
