  • Walk Now For Autism Speaks - June 12 2010

    Hello to all,

I wanted to bring to everyone's attention an event that is happening in the Sioux Falls area. That event is the "Walk Now for Autism Speaks" event at Augustana College - Kirkeby-Over Stadium on June 12 2010.

This event hits our family pretty square in the nose since our 3 year old (almost 4) was diagnosed with Autism last year. If you don't know what autism is, trust me you are not alone... We didn't either, until it directly affected our family. Statistics show that every 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with autism, that tells me that alot more people will become aware of what exactly autism is and how it affects people.

Please consider attending the event and/or donating to the walk. I have included some links below.

We are always looking for walkers to join our team. Please if you are interested feel free to contact me or sign up on the website.

We attended this event last year raising just over 1900 dollars for this worthy cause. We had a great time at the event and we totally appreciate all the support.

    Thanks,
    Joe

We need you to help make tomorrow be about baseball games, school lunches and first words rather than therapy, doctor appointments and despair. Together, we will find the missing pieces.

I personally hope you will seriously consider joining our team and walking with us in what is a terribly meaningful event for our family and many others. We understand not everyone can walk, and Summer is a very busy time for everyone. We appreciate any support we can get whether it comes in the form of walkers, donations, thoughts, or prayers.

It would appear that the site is down today... I will let everyone know when it comes back up....

While you are waiting, a new website to check out: http://www.lightitupblue.org

I am planning on surrounding my house with blue lights for the entire month of april in honor of Autism Awareness month. Just one of the ways I intend on showing my support and advocacy.

The website for the south dakota walk is back up and running. Now is your chance.

Lat year I challenged the posters on here and don't know if anyone gave or not. I have posted on the USD board to cross over to your page and challenge our fans to outgive yours. If that happens, then I might chide Joe to surround his house in RED lights in April. I'm pretty sure Mrs. Joe won't regard her house as the "Red Light District" if enough money is raised.

The night of April 1st will be designated all blue for the light it up blue campaign... however I am willing to swap out for red anytime after that... and will swap out throughout the month depending on who has the most donations... Sounds like a great plan....

So we are up to 152 dollars with 127 of it under my personal page... so we are starting to pick up donations and pledges... Thank You... it means soo soo much...

First of the blue lights are up -- World Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd. Wear blue to show your support and awareness for autism.

So it appears we have our first bulb replacement... On our house there are three blue light bulbs tonight.... Right now the way it stands we will replace one of those bulbs with a red one tomorrow night. USD fans have topped the SDSU fans so far with donations...

Like I said before I am planning on keeping this going all month. Since April is Autism Awareness month... That is of course assuming the neighbors don't get too upset... lol

Got a donation late yesterday from a fellow jackrabbit fan -- tonight the bulb goes back to blue... No questions from the neighbors yet.. lol...
Had an interesting easter. Tried to go out to a brunch, but logan was having a bad day. We ended up buying rolls at the grocery store and heading home instead. We were getting the looks that are far to common... Sometime when you see a child misbehaving or throwing a fit at a restaurant... Please don't assume that the child is spoiled or a brat. Dont give parents looks of dissapproval. Instead go about your day like the breakdown isn't happening, or drop the parents or the child a word of compassion or understanding. it will make all the difference in the world.

Neighbors noticed, One of them asked me "what's with the blue lights?" lol... so I explained it to them, they thought it was cool...

                        Still all blue.

Thank you so much for your support... Lets see if we can keep the lights blue...

Beautiful day yesterday, spent the entire day outside working in the yard. Finished a modification to the playset out in the back yard. Worried about children falling off the back where there was a rock wall for older kids. Closed it off and took off the rock wall. Also added some handles to make getting on the slide and up the stairs a little easier.

Today probably time to rake the thatch from the yard. Started on this task a little bit yesterday. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I did of course remember to light up the blue lights last night. All in all it was a great day. Wondering if I will be putting up the red light any time soon....
