Re: Who is your all-time favorte Jackrabbit?

WOW, to pick one will obviously leave some special Jackrabbits out.

Megan Vogel. Everyone is familiar with her on the court accomplishments which puts her at the top. I'm picking her because of the way she has treated my family and in particular my two kids. They watched her play and got to know her and dream a little bigger dream as a result of that relationship. She is a special person.

    The near the top:
Jen Warkenthien-All-around fantastic player and person
Steve "King Ling" Lingenfelter-Just a beast of a player
Chris White-Made scoring look too easy
Kurt Meister-Good guy, great hands, great shooter
Ryan Naatjes-NOBODY took it to the hole like Nacho!
Jermaine Showers-Great PG and a funny guy
Mark Tetzlaff-Not textbook but unbelievably effective
    Josh Ranek-ultimate competitor
Doug Miller-Great guy, great player, miss him
Ben Beran-Heart of a lion and a great role model
Jason Sempsrott-special guard, 90%+ from line, did it all and had unreal Bball IQ

I could go on and on...

    GB, GB, GJ!

For basketball, Its a tie for Pater/Vogel true leaders and winners. For the men, im leaning towards Austin Hansen just a flat out talent and competitor, looked like he worked hardered then anyone and it showed, and football gotta go with Ranek, made it look to easy.

Generation gap at play here. Don Jacobsen deserves a look. He is 4th or 5th on the all time Jacks scoring list. He finished with 1488 points. Tetz leads with a little over 1900. Anyway, Jake played in an era where freshmen weren't allowed to play varsity. And, he played before there was a 3 point line. Allowed to play as a freshman and given a three point line, he might hold the scoring record. By the way, Jake held the South Dakota High School record for over 50 years until Louie Krogman beat it. Jake finished with 2,825 points in high school and Krogman had 3,521. I wonder what a three point line in high school what have meant to Jake. He might not have kept Krogman from the record but it would have been interesting.

Didn't want to see a Jackrabbit great get lost in the generation gap shuffle.

Gotta include Palmer "Pete" Retzlaff ...led the 'Rabbits to a national title in track and field.

I second HoboD's recommendation of Garry Bentley...great guy, one of the top 10k runners in the world (not exaggerating)....also liked Nidaros's note on Cleve Abbott --- a Watertown Arrow! After SDSU, earned his doctorate at Harvard before going to Tuskegee Institute.

A number on this list from my time at State!
Sempsrott- not just Bball IQ but overall IQ.

Chris White would probably be my favorite after being around him with the team and took a class together. An extremely humble superstar. As with so many people we are listing- great player and great person at the same time! Put the team on his back in the Elite 8 game against Cal (Pa). As Superbunny said - made it look so easy.

Hard to pick one for sure. Troy Bouman was another favorite- again, as a player and a person! Great work ethic.

What a courageous running back. Never gave up until he was flattened by a pile up.
