Ah, well, that would be 10 & 11, not 9 & 10, then, but the comparisons to TCU & Utah remain similar, as they both participate in both indoor & outdoor T&F.

              SDSU: 21 championship sports
              TCU: 20 championship sports
              Utah: 19 championship sports

How big is the unused golf dome. Don't want to heat it put it up over the hockey rink, if its big enough, add some bleachers or stands and a support building for lockers, concession, bathrooms. and voila.

                  Re: Hockey?

I guess if posters want to talk about adding hockey, they can just keep this thread going. Hockey is not now, and will not be in the next 10 years (if ever) on the athletic agenda at SDSU. As stated by others, we already have one of the largest offerings of sports around...and with league considerations (staffing requirements), salary considerations, facility considerations, we will be darn lucky to even keep what we have going. It will remain a club sport here IMO.

It's amazing the athletic department is able to fund as many sports as it does. I'm not sure how long they can sustain it given the economic climate.

In my own convenient and perhaps selective recall, SDSU was never able to match NDSU in football budgets when the Bison claim to fame climb began about 1964. Add to that the number of sports added since 1964 at SDSU, I think in the mid 1960's there were only baseball, football, basketball, wrestling, tennis, golf, track and field, and cross country. That is only 8 and no women's sports as TITLE IX came along in the 1970-75 time frame. When D2 allowed 45 football scholarships NDSU was about the only NCC school that could fund that many. Mainly because they have never had more than 14 sports men and women total. Also they seem to made sure all fourteen sports are competitive and adeqately funded.

I said in another post, that UND was smart in starting hockey right after WWII and seems like they had an old hanger left over from the war as their first facility, so they have nearly 60 years of experince with this sport. Its a big sport at UND and really works well. UND hockey no doubt helps brings those Manitoba license plates to town to shop in GF. For the community of Brookings and SDSU to replicate that experience would take millions of bucks, that need to go into the existing sports. Unless we can find a Ralph Englestad amongst our alums and friends, it will probably never happen.

hockey isnt even a mainstream sport, heck, D2-D3 schools have it. and its mainly canadian juniors playing (see und) that sure doesnt sound like fun, leave the hockey thugs to them.

                              44% = mainly to me.

Hmmmmm....I might have to agree with UNDfan on this one. 44% in no way = mainly. You might want to at least pass the halfway threshold before making such a claim.
