    Research may benefit cancer patients

    Research is underway at South Dakota State University for more effective drugs on fighting cancer.

    It is not uncommon for a drug to work effectively for a while, and then stop working. This is an especially serious problem for people using drugs to fight cancer.

    A $213,125 grant from the National Institutes of Health is enabling Dr. Xiangming Guan, professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the SDSU College of Pharmacy, to conduct research on drugs that may result in overcoming cancer drug resistance.

    “Cancer initially responds to a particular treatment,” Dr. Guan said, “then later it does not respond. This is called cancer drug resistance. We want to reverse this resistance.”  .  .  .  (read more)
