    Track runner found success as SDSU wide receiver

    Jeff Tiefenthaler went to South Dakota State in 1981 to run track. He left as the greatest wide receiver in Jackrabbit football history.

    "Wayne Haensel and Gary Hoffman signed me with the idea that, 'feel free to come out for football if you'd like,'" said Tiefenthaler, a prep standout at Armour who is the football and boys track coach at Sioux Central High in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. "I didn't go out for football until '83, my third year in school. When you run on a track scholarship, you run 6-7 months, indoor and outdoor track. I was thinking about doing both (track and football). A few track guys told me I couldn't do it. They gave me the incentive that I needed." . . . (read more)
