Farrell earns player of the week honors

South Dakota State University outfielder Pat Farrell has been named this week's NCAA Division Independent Baseball Player of the Week.

A senior from Excelsior, Minn., Farrell compiled a .421 batting average (8-for-19) for the Jackrabbits in five games as they went 3-2 during the week. Farrell had back-to-back three-hit games, recording a double and three RBI in Game 2 of a doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State on April 27, then hit his first two home runs of the season, drove in four and scored three runs in a 3-for-4 game against North Dakota State. He added a base hit and two RBI as the Jackrabbits completed a doubleheader sweep of NDSU on April 30.

The Jackrabbits, who away from action during finals this week, return to the diamond with a two-game series May 10-11 at Northern Iowa.
