    Published: 09/20/05

The South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings is showcasing portraits by Harvey Dunn through Feb. 12.

While Dunn is one of the more celebrated artists in South Dakota history, these portraits of family, friends, administrators and personalities are not well known. They're part of "College on the Hill," a book about South Dakota State University written by V.J. Smith and Amy Dunkle.

Smith, director of the SDSU Alumni Association, and Dunkle, the former editor of the Brookings Register, will give a lecture titled "Great Legacies" at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the museum.

"Great Legacies," a chapter from the book, discusses some notable figures in the college's history, some of whom are subjects in Dunn's portraits.

    Admission to the museum is free. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. . . .

    Go State! ;D
