Correction. She was awarded "Newcomer" of the year. Freshman of the year went to Evan Zars of Western Illinois.

So it was changed huh? Tom Nieman announced Tori as Freshman of the year and they showed her as FOY on the video board. Watch the press conference.

Zars is a transfer. The Summit site must have it wrong.

JD is a good coach and all. But that is awfully impressive to get a quality player like Zars to transfer TO WIU!

Next season, Kansas City brings the 2020 WAC champions and WAC Coach of the Year. I think the Summit will be more of a challenge.

The WAC isn't a very good WBB conference. Kansas City will quickly realize the pecking order remains the same as the last time they were in the SL.

Candy Whittaker had some okay teams at UMKC. I miss her.

Man - you just put me down memory lane. She left UMKC in 2012 for an associate position at Oklahoma St. A year later she's got head job at Texas Tech, which was her alma mater. She was let go halfway through the 2017-18 season and that spring is when AJ was a finalist for that job. They ended up hiring the previous coach at Minnesota Marlene Stollings. Then the Gophers ended up with Lindsey Whalen.

Whittaker is now at Missouri Western University, a D-II school in St. Joseph, MO.

I was also following a little bit and saw they were leading their conference and took a look at their RPI and I believe it was in the ballpark of ORU and WIU so coming in, depending on their roster, looks to be a middle of the road summit team which is better than cellar dwellers coming in.
