  • GDT: SDSU Jackrabbits vs Idaho Vandals @ Frost Arena High Noon

The Vandals come to Frost with 4-6 record. The Vandals were monikered over 100 years ago due to the defense vandalizing the opponents on the basketball court. The school paper started this reference and it was official in a short time. The Vandal was neutered in the 1970's to include all genders as Title IX was introduced. The Vandals have been defeated by the bison in Moscow last month and the Vandals defeated UC Bakersfield in OT in Moscow last week. The Vandals have had a few injuries this season which has allowed many players to get some quality minutes. Idaho is the preseason choice to finish last in the Big Sky conference race. Hopefully we can see a bigger crowd for the noon start today. The wrestlers had 1362 last night for the Gopher match. The Jackrabbit men should finish this OOC with a respectable record and a win over the Vandals today to remain undefeated at home this season. Go Jacks!!

Free throw shooting is going to do the Jacks in some day in a close game.

That’s not awesome. He give any indication to severity?

Not really. Said it was non-contact. Hopefully that doesn't mean stress fracture.

Tyler did now say that Buchanan is out for an extended period. Key banged his knee on the floor and went out about ten minutes ago. Still not back on the bench. Would be bad news if he is out - lucky to have 10 days before playing Omaha.

                Well crap.

Key has ice on his knee and is limping.

Whew - Hendo says Key is fine and could have come back into the game if needed.

Key was taking a beating today in the screening game by Idaho. He was a popular target if he was chasing their main man Allen. The last contact was on offense when he was streaking the baseline and found a knee on the way by.

Since we're ending the decade (or is it a year from now?) I spent the morning perusing the men's basketball board and reliving the transition years. Things have certainly gotten a lot better from the bad old years of '04-07. There was a warning from a Valpo fan about thinking you can compete in the Mid-Con during the first few years. Given the abilities of the athletes who stayed in the program, he was right. I think we can all be proud of how this program has matured.

Good victory. It's worth noting that Wingett started again in Freidel's place. Wingett brings some needed offense to the lineup. However, Freidel played quite a bit, too, and played well. Everyone (except Buchanan) played. It looked to me that Key fell hard, hit the floor kneecap first, and spent most of the second half on the bench with his knee wrapped in ice. He was still limping around after the game, so it's a relief to hear that the injury does not appear to be serious. Unfortunately, it sounds like Buchanan's injury could keep him sidelined quite a while.

Finally getting a chance to catch-up on this board after traveling yesterday. Free throw shooting has already cost the team some close games. It's a problem for both basketball teams, and they need to figure it out.

We are shooting 69% from the free throw line, our opponents 65%. In 4 of our 6 losses, we shot a better percent from the free throw line than our opponent. The only 2 we didnt was at Arizona(73%/68%) and Montana St (76%/65%). Seems like we arent the only ones with free throw problems. Maybe teams should be shooting free throws before games instead of shooting 3’s

That is correct. The worst FT % are in some of the wins. After that 60% & 65% are losses to Colorado St and Montana St. It is easy to remember those negative days on blowouts rather than so-so performances on losses. Colorado St shot 52% in that 4 point game. Either way, this team looks to be developing nicely at this stage of the season. Omaha will be a good test for opening the Summit on the road.
