The only stat that really matters is wins.

Ok...we have won 73.9% of our games which ranks us 58th out of 353 DI teams.

Sure, but we can use stats to paint a pretty good picture of whether our success is sustainable. Those defensive stats + our offense = lots of wins

At this time of the season, the Mavs look to be the other team in conference as they have had a tough OOC and consistent conference play. It is possible that there may be another strong contender. At this time, Omaha looks to be the contender which could be there in Sioux Falls. The Jackrabbits appear to have a higher level of play, but they will still need to bring the game against a Mav team. The Jackrabbits need to avoid those turnover moments which can fuel scoring threats.

Some people may like stats and that's just fine. But we don't play 353 D1 teams and IMO they would look way different against different competition levels. You can play with numbers all you want and make them come out good or bad depending on what your looking for but at the end of the day the scoreboard tells the most important stat. Not trying to start an argument by any means but all I know against the only teams that matter at the moment we are 7-1.

Yes, the stat of 7-1 means the most. However, the other stats do tell a story.

SDSU is 1st in scoring and 2nd in scoring defense in conference play.

                - 84.6 pts/game, PFW is 2nd at 84.1, conference average is 74.6.

                - 71.3 pts/game, USD is allowing 66.6 and conference average is 75.8.

USD is first in scoring defense, but last in scoring offense.
UNO is third in scoring, but 8th in defense.
PFW is second in scoring, but last in defense.
NDSU and ORU are both slightly below average in scoring and average in defense.
The other three teams are fighting to make the Summit tourney.

Conference contending teams usually excel in one area and are competitive in the other. SDSU is dominant in both scoring and defense. No other team matches up with us with talent on the court or in production on both ends.

And being at the mid-point of the conference schedule where every team has played all the others once, it should be as accurate a comparison as possible.

The defense has shown improvement. Like another poster said, good but not great. The effort has been there as of late and that is what matters. This team doesn't need to be great on defense. They just can't be terrible. To win in the NCAA Tournament they need to be good if not great.

Loved seeing Daum attack the rim! Have been looking for more of that all year. Let's hope that trend continues as well.
