  • GDT: SDSU Jackrabbits vs Drake Bulldogs @ Frost Arena

MVC preseason favorite Drake arrives in Brookings today for the 2pm game. Drake has been undefeated in the MVC play the past 2 years. They are currently #21 in the big girl Poll and lead the MidMajor Poll. They have also gone to an 8-1 record that includes wins over WIU, USD, Nebraska, Rutgers, South Carolina, and Creighton. The only setback was a loss to Notre Dame in Vancouver, Canada. The not so long series between SDSU & Drake is tied at 1-1 and this might be considered the rubber match for now. Jennie (Lillis) Baranczyk is the hometown girl who is entering the 7th season as the head coach. She is likely keeping the team focused for the game today rather than looking ahead to games against Iowa and Iowa State games that send them into Christmas and the MVC. Drake features 2 preseason first team choices in #5 Hittner and #50 Rhine. Rhine leads the Bulldogs with 18.2ppg, 57% shooting, & 8.1 boards in 22.8 minutes, Hittner is next with 16.7 ppg, 50% shooting, & 4.2 boards in 24.6 minutes. There are 8 more players averaging double digit minutes as they shoot at 48.5% clip scoring 81 ppg. The Jackrabbits certainly have played at the level needed to win this game. They have the hometown crowd at Frost to encourage the winning outcome to be simultaneous with the football team performance of another Jackrabbit win. Go Jacks!!

Both teams can score and play good defense, might come down to the quieter stats, TO's, rebounding, as well as hustle and the desire to win. Lots of implications attached to this game for both teams, should be a knock down drag out fight to the end, a real barn burner! This game would be a heck of a momentum builder heading into the match up against Oregon if we come out the winner.....Let the games begin!!

Tyler always mentions the Tune-in app. Search “jackrabbits”.

Jacks came out swinging. 24-15 after one. They brought their A-game defensively. Impressive.

45 points at half against a top-25 team is pretty good. They definitely don’t look any better than us but do a nice job of back-cutting and finding open players under the basket.

                      45-35 Jacks at half.

Irwin with the 3 point dagger. Jacks by 7 with 1:30 left.

                          Drake has never lead.

                            That was a sick pick.

Crap wrong forum. Trying to follow two exciting events at the same time is bad.

If they were the 21st-best team in the country we definitely belong in the top-25. This is a good time to have Oregon coming to town.
