Creighton wins against Leathernecks by 11. Gilbeck has 7 blocks. Maybe these guys are not at the bottom, but this would not be the first time WIU came out strong only to sputter.

    U of M beats Mavs by 28.

    MoSt spanks ORU 84-50.

    Mastodons bow to UCLA 96-71.

Fighting Hawks beat up on Northland.

    Denver beats Maine 62-50.

New Mexico St slides by the bison 73-56.

    Re: OOC Summit MBB

Looked at the matchups between the WAC/Summit teams from last night and I was a little surprised to see that New Mexico State edged out GCU in their preseason polls. NMS returns only one starter who is on the WAC preseason first team, but the point guard only averaged 9.4 points/2.9 assists per game as a sophomore. They also return a preseason 2nd teamer who averaged 8.3 points/4.8 rebounds per game coming off the bench. NMS has been the perennial leader of the WAC for years, but it seams like they got the preseason nod over GCU because of their past laurels.

Nevertheless, NMS dominated the Bison in the first half and led 36-20 at the break before coasting to a 17 point win. They even led 18-3 to open the game. Outside of sophomore Rocky Kreuser, the Bison struggled to score. Kreuser who averaged 3.8 points and 2 rebounds per game as a freshman, went 9-11 from the floor and 5-6 from beyond the arc to score 23 points. It could be that the Bison are trying to emulate SDSU by having a 6' 10" forward that can score from beyond the arc and surround him with guards of various lengths.

NDSU was no match for NMS, but the Jackrabbits held up their end of the bargain with the matchup of the two conferences. Western Illinois played well against Creighton before falling behind midway through the second half. Oral Bob didn't show up against Missouri State. So who will be the team to push the Jackrabbits this year? We won't know much about USD after tonight's game against York College.

The past couple of days find SDSU, ORU, & WIU have all handled the lower division teams.

UND beats Milwaukee(Horizon League) 63-60 on the road. This is the school that gave us Coach Otz when they replaced him before he could sign the contract. Fighting Hawks appear make the win was 41% shooting compared to 33%. I have not watched any info for UND other than one of their better players transferred out.

Mastodons play a good first half and not so much in the second half as they drop to Ohio State 107-61.

ORU travels to TCU today and they lose 79-62.

ORU actually ended up playing Oakland in their tourney and lost that one too, 87-76. Then lost to JMU 78-69 in OT in the final game of that tourney.

I think the Golden Eagles picked up the OT win against JMU. It was the first D1 win for ORU.
