Seems wrestling recruiting is going well under Hahn. Are we perusing Cael Carlson?

Skyler Noftsger, Ballard High School, Iowa

"South Dakota State has gotten on the board with their first recruit in Damion Hahn’s first full recruiting class. Iowa high schooler Skyler Noftsger, who is projected at 165 or 174 lbs, is that first recruit for the Jackrabbits. Noftsger was a state runner-up in 2017 and finished fourth for Ballard High School in 2018."

It is a great start to recruiting. Regarding Cael Carlson, I'd be shocked if we weren't recruiting him.

The Des Moines Register says he “picked SDSU over Iowa”. That’s pretty good recruiting......

Damian Hahn effect with this recruit. Daniel "Greg" Kerkvliet wants to be a world and Olympic champion. Not many recruits have that in their vision when selecting schools.

Kerkvliet has one huge obstacle in his way - Gable Steveson. Steveson recently won a world championship and edged Kervliet in a dual match last winter 3-2. Kervliet wrestled at 220 lbs. last season but is projected to be a heavyweight in the collegiate ranks - same as Steveson. The two are a year apart in age and last winter they were 40+ lbs. apart when they wrestled.

The two were originally slated to be teammates at Minnesota, but Kerkvliet decommitted from the Gophers and announced his intentions to go to Oklahoma State. Kervliet was expected to wrestle at 197 lbs. with Steveson at 285. Kervliet plans to be at the larger weight class. I haven't found out why he reopened his recruitment in July, but one could only expect that he's looking for the best fit to prepare him to become a world champion. In July, four schools were said to be at the top of his wish list. Penn State, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and Nebraska. The video that WrestlingFan89 found was posted four days ago and his visit schedule now includes SDSU. That's a huge statement for where the program is and the effect that Hahn has on this program.

That's only like his third commitment so far...a couple more and maybe he will choose us.

Will this young man's commitment sway Hutmacher one way or the other (are we even still on the Hutmacher radar)? Wrestling, unlike almost all other sports, is a pretty individual effort. There are only so many weight classes to go around. Once you get a stud at one weight it may be a turn off for others coming shortly after them. Especially the bigger guys who only have one option for a weight.
