    Re: 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships

    And then there were four...

Four Jackrabbits still wrestling, but as expected, Gross is the only one with a chance to be a national champion.

Going in reverse order, with wrestlers still alive in Bold.

197: Rotert's upset by K. Conel was somewhat validated. Conel pinned topped ranked K. Moore from Ohio State in 1:30. It just shows how quick fates can turn in this sport. Rotert dominated Caywood of Army 9-3 in his first match of the day and followed up with a 4-3 victory over J. Smith of WVU with his next match. To qualify as an All-American, he will have to beat the #6 seed, William Miklus from Mizzou. At least two top eight seeds in this weight class will not become All-Americans. Hoping Rotert is not one of those two.

184: As stated earlier, Mueller went 0-2 yesterday and is a spectator the rest of the way.

174: Kocer is working his way through the consolation bracket today. He opened up with a 5-3 win over Christensen of Wisconsin. His second match resulted in a major decision with an 8-0 thumping of J. Johnson from Harvard. Next up is #8 Jadaen Bernstein of Navy. Winner will be an All-American.

157: Zilverberg lost 8-5 in the quarterfinals to A. Pantaleo of Michigan. Next up in his quest to become an All-American is unseeded Kennedy Monday of North Carolina.

141: Pohmeyer stuck his first opponent in the consolation bracket yesterday, but was handled by #5 K Jack of NC State. His seasons over, but success was qualifying for the NCAA's and picking up a pin.

133: Gross finally got to wrestle #8 M. Bridges from Wyoming. The two didn't wrestle in the dual last month so that Gross and Meredith could square off. Gross controlled Bridges 7-3. Unranked Tariq Wilson from NC State is standing between Gross and his quest for making the finals. Wilson has beat some very good opponents this season, but this would qualify as a major upset for him to beat Gross.

125: Brown ran into a buzz saw in #13 Z. Moisey from WVU. Moisey won 10-4 and then quickly dispatched a wrestler from Illinois. Expect big things from Brown in the future as this experience will pay dividends down the road.

Gross gave up a lead and had to go to OT where he got a fall in 16 seconds to get back to the championship match.

Gross, Zilverberg and Kocer will be All-Americans. Rotert falls just short - ends career with 99 wins. Jacks are in 9th in team points.

Gross was very very fortunate. The kid from NC Stats took him down over and over and was in on a shot. Gross turned the tables and stuck him.

Check out gojackswrestle on Twitter. A couple great reaction videos from Zilverberg and Kocer. The raw emotion is incredible. The want Bono and Reader have for their guys is unreal.

Not only that but are going to finish higher than any other Big XII team. Currently in 11th place. Will stay there if Arizona States Valencia loses his championship match.

THIS IS HUGE: Seth Gross beats Michigan's Stevan Micic, 13-8. SDSU's first D-1 National Champ.

                        And he's a junior.

A great match by Gross. An early takedown and a 4 point near-fall allowed him to cruise to victory.

Yes that turn in the first was huge. It was really over after one. He just made sure he didn’t get himself in a bad spot the rest of the way. Pretty amazing what the program accomplished this year.

Congratulations to Seth Gross and the entire team and coaches. A great story and proof that people do deserve a second chance. Look forward to watching the program in the future. I know for a fact that they are enlarging the wrestling fanbase.
