  • GDT: SDSU Jackrabbits @ WIU Leathernecks in Macomb

The Jackrabbits have 2 very tough road games and a finish at Fort Wayne in the next week. Even though there is a 20-2 record against the Leatherneck WBB, Gravina has intentions of evening the series some. Last year was the first loss at Western Hall since the inaugural game in January 2008. This is a BIG game for the WIU team. They have 6 seniors playing the last game in Western Hall. It may be the last game for Gravina if a program in need could outspend the WIU budget for a solid coach. (Notice the parade of football coaches at WIU) Meanwhile last year's POY, Clemens, is having a very successful run at a possible repeat POY for this year. It is more than likely the Leatherneck seniors will not save any energy for later as they attempt to leave Western Hall with a win. They have lost only to the yotes and Milwaukee this year at Western Hall. The Jackrabbits had success against the WIU zone in Frost earlier and I expect they will remember some of that success while they continue to score at the recent pace. The defense may not hold the Leathernecks under 50 today, but they ought to hold them under the 84 point average. It is a must win on the road for the Jackrabbits to keep in the hunt for #1 seed. It is not hard to pick a healthy Jackrabbit WBB to win at Macomb. Go Jacks!!

Motivation is there for both teams I would suspect. WIU has had pretty respectable crowds, for them, when they are playing against the Jacks. Superior talent and who has the fortitude to win the game shall prevail, it's crunch time, and both sides know it. Two tough games on the road will make playing in the SLT seem a lot easier. Get the W and go home for a short while before the next big challenge.Seems like we have this schedule every year, get used to it I guess. Go Jacks!

Jacks have as many turnovers in 5 minutes as the men had in 40. Lead 8-5 only because Western is about 1 for 10 from three-land.

40 Jacks, 20 Necks at half. Necks perfect on ft, and have more made Ft than fg. No one on Jacks to double digits, but most who played have scored.

Man, if it wasn’t for all the turnovers we would be up 30. Just like the game at Frost their offense consists of out of control drives and contested 3’s. We are long and are giving them fits. Need to limit the TO’s and be aggressive and bring this one home.

You're right, the Jack's are just begging the Leathernecks to get back into the game. It should be 40, if they just quit turning it over. Anybody have a count? I ran out of fingers and toes.

That is 2 games they held the Leathernecks to less than 50. Does defense come to mind?

Definitely. WIU is best known for scoring - especially Clemens. I like how things are coming together late in the season. Wednesday will be interesting.

If you can stop Clemens from getting out and causing havoc in transition, WIU's half court offense leaves a lot to be desired.

WIU was 5/35 from three point. WOW.

Exactly. I wonder when the last time she was held without a field goal was? WIU in the 2 games against us has shot poorly because they aren’t getting easy break aways, don’t get easy shots at the rim (due to our length), and are forced to shoot contested 3’s. Not a recipe for success.

Whatever we’ve done defensively, it’s been deadly. WIU has scored 80+ in 13 DI games. Neither Gonzaga (22-5) nor Stanford (currently ranked 14th) kept them under 65. Only one team has held them under 50 (SDSU - twice).

We have played five teams twice now. The first time around we outscored them by an average of 20 and the second 31.5. We scored 85+ once in those first five games and four times the second time around. There have been good adjustments by the coaches and a very noticeable increase in intensity. Keep it rolling.
