I'm sure it does for the other 9 wrestlers the wrestle tomorrow night. If we lose the dual because Bono bumps Gross up a weight class he's putting Gross before the team.

Am I totally off base on that??
I was of the understanding that the coaches have to agree on the order. But what do I know.

You could surely be correct on that. Wrestling is so different than other team sports in that you try and qualify individuals rather than the team for post season.

Yes, that is the politically correct answer. However, lets not kid ourselves to think these duals mean more than they actually do. I think everyone in that wrestling room would take a dual loss, to have the entire wrestling community spotlight the SDSU v Wyo Thursday dual. The duals are fun for fans, but each one of those guys is working towards an individual goal they can hopefully reach in those three days in March.

My bad...totally messed that one up, I was thinking it would be fun to see Molitor wrestle but I meant to say Pieper at 133...

It’s a nice thing...this excitement has gotten a ton of coverage not only for the team but Jackrabbit athletics.

That is pretty much the ruling. If coaches can't agree then it is a random draw.

Re: Good week for a couple home duals

Perhaps Gross wrestling the number one kid at a different weight class will serve as motivation for the rest of the season. Also, if the rest of the team wants to see the big showdown, they may work extra hard leading up to their match to ensure they have the lead necessary for it to happen. All of this could be completely off base and Coach Bono is just attempting to draw attention to this match. Perhaps it is a recruiting tool? If the wresting world is watching the outcome of the big showdown, it may make it easier to walk into that recruits home in the off season to visit. Whether it happens or not, it is a great strategy. People are talking about it.
