  • GDT: Drake @ SDSU

Drake is coming in at 5-6. They are the MVC preseason last place team. The Bulldogs are not consistent at this point. They have been beaten easily by USD and Iowa. There are also losses to Colorado, Wyoming and Minnesota. They have split with Omaha. They have beaten Wake Forest. They have preseason all conference Reed Timmer who averages 20 points/game and he will be launching over half of his shots from long distance at 51% clip. The Jackrabbits have been looking a bit shorthanded with Thiesen and Howell limping. The Jackrabbits should still have the firepower to stay with Drake at home. Drake has not won a road game since last January. The last chance to wish the MBB Merry Christmas at Frost at 7pm. Go Jacks!!

Jacks are 10 point favorites in this one. Drake has had a very weird and inconsistent start to the season. I expect a result somewhere between the beating that USD put on them and their 1 point loss to Minnesota.

$8 for a GA ticket, pop, and popcorn for tonight's game. Just have to call the ticket office to order before 5 PM. Basically getting into the game for a few bucks.

This is a team we should handle with little trouble 90% of the time. They’re likely to rise up once in a while because of their heavy reliance on 3pt shots. Let’s hope we don’t catch them on a night when they’re hot.

I hope to see a lot more of the Jacks attacking from the paint tonight. That’s going to be key to scoring consistently during the conference season.

Short team. Their biggest starter is 6'-8" and the next biggest is 6'-2".

Theisen warming up but won't play. Howell will be limited because of a bunion (think I heard that right). So we are really prolly 7 deep tonight. No mention of pulling a redshirt in the pregame interview.

Go Jacks.com has the only video.

Drake has yet to hit a 3 and consequently we have a nice lead (35-19).

The best play in the first 13:00 was seconds after Howell came in for the first time. He had the ball and a sliver of an opening to drive into the lane, put his shoulder down (like usual) and charged in about 3 steps before kicking it out to Severyn for an open 3. You don't see that much from Howell - especially early in a game. More please.

Postgame show leaned strongly to no redshirts pulled. Thiesen will rest until conference with a possible cameo against Presentation. Howell is still very gimpy. I do not think he played in second half. Ball movement was fairly steady tonight and the defense was sticky. King defended Timmer much of night with some help from Flatten to keep the leading scorer frustrated.

Howell had decent line for 8 minutes and gimpy....2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 points. Key played solid in his minutes as well.

King was a huge part of making this one an easy win. They relied heavily on guard play and outside shooting and he's just the guy to mess that up. We're never going to be a lock-down defensive team because Daum's most important assignment on defense is "stay out of foul trouble" so it's pretty important to have a guy like TK to at least be a big speed bump on the way to the rim. That's pretty critical with the likes of Mooney and Konchar out there on the horizon.

Key seems to get a little better every game. His crazy slashes straight down to the baseline (that ended in a turnover 90% of the time) are becoming more of a distant memory.
