  • Re: Time for Stig to move on?

We gather and discuss several things about this teams offense. Let's discuss why no personnel changes are being made in the reciever group? Someone posted earlier why is Brown playing over #80 Anderson. Why is #1 Jordan Brown still getting playing time after obvious screw ups on the field? Several Obvious MA's, Poor blocking(missed block that cause Dallas injury)underperforming route running, dropped balls and yet #80 is sidelined. Anderson caught the first two big catches in the opening season game to get the game started. He's proven himself on the field over and over but is only on Special teams now???. How does that happen? Good coaches put their best 11 on the field. We want a win by any means and this position coach wants to play favorites. Is that what's going on? Yes, we have Jake and Dallas but they can always use help and they're not getting it from what we've seen. Lewis dropping balls and still no Anderson. Who coaches like that? Good coaches discipline their players for underperforming Brown seems to be getting rewarded with more reps for all his errors. Fans want to see good adjustments made weekly and that's not happening with the recievers. Yes, the talent is there but being wasted by poor coaching decisions. Let's get Anderson involved more to help out Jake and Dallas who Stig says both are still not 100. But reciever coach won't play Anderson.... WOW... Let's all see what personnel adjustments are made this week or if Brown gets another chance.

Alex Wilde has more catches and receiving yards than any other wide receiver not named Wieneke.

What does that have to do with anything?? If Wilde is performing, then he should be in also. I'm talking about Brown and Anderson.....

Just trying to point out that other receivers are getting playing time. I tried to find the number of plays each receiver has been in, but that doesn't seem to be a stat they publish. There are a half dozen receivers who have between 3 and 11 catches - they seem to be rotating receivers quite a bit throughout the game. So I'm not sure it makes much difference who starts. Cade Johnson actually has more catches than either Brown or Anderson.

Hey now NJ, you shouldn't have manipulated the quote to make it seem like I said that.

I understand your point, but as was stated if Brown is underperforming he should be replaced. Anderson or Wilde will do but no reason why Brown still getting in with his performance since beginning of season. Also, Anderson is not rotated in as much as he should be considering the contributions he's already made. Wilde also. Bottom line is put your best position guys on the field. Especially when offense is struggling. The coaches haven't given them a chance to stay in and help Jake and Dallas. Why put them in one play here and then 5,6 plays later. Leave them in for a couple plays so they can get a feel of things on the field.

Listened to Bob Nelson's interview on KWSN this evening. USD made a great hire. Love the way he approaches things. He's doing a lot more than SDSU with a lot less talent than SDSU has right now. The only problem USD has is this guy will likely be getting offers from FBS schools if he keeps it up.

Nielson faces an interesting situation at QB next year. You don't think that could be a problem for them?

We'll see. The good college coaches have the ability to adapt quickly and change their game plans to match the players they have. He seems to have done that with Streveler this year.

FBS transfer immediately eligible. Not that big of a problem. Nielsen was a great hire for USD. He does need to watch out for the Peter Princple.

Seems to be running with what he had, similar to the manner in which Streveler was used last year. What changes are you seeing in their game plan for Streveler?

Looks like they have one true and two redshirt freshmen and a sophomore at QB. Perhaps Simmons (the sophomore) or Kaiser (one of the redshirts) can replicate Streveler's success, but Nielson stepped into a pretty good QB situation with a senior FBS transfer.

No doubt on this. Not to mention, if Coach K ever moves on, Bob N. would be a top external candidate at NDSU. Let's give Coach Glenn some love too. A lot of the players still came on under him and he brought them back to respectability and had a signature win over Carson and the Bison. They've made two great coach hires in a row.

Discussed on Monday; go back a few pages. I had asked that same question as even though some folks are looking for heads, it is not that simple anymore for SDSU.

Simmons is supposedly the next in line. Yote fans say he has a cannon for an arm and is a good runner, although I can't imagine hes as good of a runner as Strevelar. Biggest drop off would likely be the mental aspect, as Strevelar seems to have really improved that area of his game this year. Last year he had turnover problems, and I don't think he has any so far this year. Even as a team, the yotes have only 2 total turnovers on the season

These are interesting points. Thinking out loud:

I think the team has a lot of good receivers, and it is hard to know/understand why certain players seem to get more game reps than others. Special teams has been a major concern for us in the past, what does that picture look like if Anderson happens to get injured on an offensive play? I know, there needs to be contingencies for those sorts of things, but if offense is marginally improved and an injury means special teams suffers dramatically, that is something to consider.

We recently had a basketball coach who would determine playing time based off a bad week in practice.

I suspect it is a combination of things - practice week, conditioning, attitude, knowledge/understanding of schemes, etc. Even academics may be a factor.

Who is our 2nd/3rd/4th tier receivers isn't as concerning to me as the fact that our MVP quarterback can't seem to connect regularly with our All American wide receiver and tight end.
