Thought we were going to get another NebraskaJack for the softball team, but Ellie McCoy from Hastings, NE is heading to Missouri State instead. She had considered SDSU, Valpo, and Augie before making her commitment. McCoy's high school teammate, Olivia Douglas announced last July that she committed to SDSU. This would have been a nice pair. McCoy is finishing up her sophomore season and has been All-State twice so far. She's been considered one of the top prospects from Nebraska and made her decision before new rules for NCAA D1 recruitment changes. The rule change "prevent contact between schools and prospects before Sept. 1 of the prospect's junior year in high school."

While Hastings is not a large town, it is a hotbed for softball. They have outstanding facilities, regularly host national tournaments there, and have great coaching from the youth programs and older. Keeping this pipeline open for future recruits is valuable.

Ellie plays travel ball with one of the best programs in the Midwest, the Nebraska Gold. She is coached by current Jackrabbit Paige Gerdes' father, Scott Gerdes. This weekend in Omaha the Gold was shut down by future Jackrabbit pitcher, Grace Glanzer, and the South Dakota Renegades. There's a ton of talent within the Renegades program, including three SDSU commits with hopefully more to come.
