  • 2017 NFL Draft

Youngstown State was well represented with their football program this year. Making it to the FCS championship game and have multiple players drafted. The rest of the MVFC got shut out.

Third Round: Derek Rivers was the third FCS player and first from the MVFC to get drafted when New England nabbed him with their first pick, #83 overall.

Fifth Round: The other bookend DE from YSU, Avery Moss, went to the Giants with the 167th pick. I bet the Huskers wish they would have kept him so they could have kept their streak of multiple players getting drafted.

    Other notables:
    • Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE from Villanova played his last collegiate game at the Dykhouse and was the first FCS player to be drafted. KC Chiefs took him in the 2nd round with the 59th overall pick.
    • Cooper Kupp, the other big time WR (Jake Wieneke first in our hearts) from Eastern Washington was drafted by the Rams in the third round, #69 overall.
    • Eric Saubert, TE from Drake was the second best TE on the field when the Bulldogs played the Rabbits in the first game ever in the Dana J Dykhouse stadium. Saubert was selected in the 5th round by the Atlanta Falcons. This bodes well for Goedert next year.
    • Brad Seaton, an OT from Villanova also played the Rabbits in the playoffs last fall. The Titans took him in the middle of the 7th round.

In a down year, only 15 FCS players were drafted as compared to 20 last year and an annual average of 18.
